Default Victorian cursive handwriting in private schools

Hi all ! I am wondering about what the deal is with the Victorian cursive handwriting. Are they teaching this in schools as part of the curriculum and do private schools teach it too? I came across a book with the modern Victorian cursive handwriting which my 5 year old was fascinated by and wanted to have a go. Looking through it some letters were quite different like 'b' and I then worried that my son who is in pre Prep might get confused as to why it doesn't look like a regular 'b'. Also if if it is part of the curriculum, when do they actually introduce it ? Thank you !

I can only speak for Qld (private school) but they started in Year 2. I think it may be a little confusing for a pre-prep to learn as they introduce it very slowly once they have their normal letters perfect.

My dd started school this year and they introduced it in pre school knowing that they would be using it at school this year. Her name has a small p in it and that's how they taught her to write her name. I absolutely hate it, in my opinion it looks nothing like the letters they are supposed to. She's at a public school so I can't comment on private schools.

what on earth is the value in learning cursive? in the day of the device, what is seriously the point? surely their time could be better spent on more valuable life skills?
