Default 5yo not knowing she wet herself

My DD is 5 and has been toilet trained for years. She's always had some issues but it's definitely gotten worse since starting school. Her undies were always wet, so I ordered special period undies to try and catch leakage. I thought maybe she wasn't wiping but after training hard on that it appears she only realises she has to go to the toilet when the wee starts to come out.

The past couple of days she's actually wet herself and hasn't had a clue until someone tells her. In the past she's always known. Anyone have any experience with this? I'm going to ask for a referral to a continence clinic at the children's hospital when I take her to the GP tomorrow

uti ? Yes, certainly start with the gp and follow with a specialist. It seems quite odd. marie.

Thank Marie, you're such a sweetheart. Still having issues unfortunately. The teacher is sending her every hour which is helping but yesterday two mins after getting back yesterday wet herself!

The doc tested her wee and there's no signs of infection. We've been referred to the children's urology clinic and I'm awaiting an appointment.

i hope you find some answers with the specialist. An infection would be the easiest to "fix" . hugs , marie.

Try and get in to a continence nurse - the dr's clinic may know where there is one.

It's a long shot but my DD has encopresis (severe constipation). She has been known to wet herself without realising when she is full of poo.

Your DD may have similar? Diagnosis was via an xray.
