    Default Do I need a D and C?

I'm going to call the doctor today but would like other people's opinions based on experience.

I was told the other day that the foetus we expected to be 8 weeks was measuring less than 7 weeks and the heart had stopped beating. I started bleeding and cramping yesterday and I'm pretty sure I have passed it all.

    How do I know if I still need a d and c?

I'm so sorry for your loss hun You'll need a scan to check that everything has passed, and then blood tests to check that your HCG has gone back to zero. Sending you hugs xx

When I had my MMC I had a lot of cramping and then passing of clots. I felt what was a very big clot pass and after that the cramping eased, the bleeding continued for a few days.

A repeat scan a week later was required to confirm everything had passed and I had weekly bloods to ensure my levels were back to 0 (under 5).

I am so sorry you are going through this, sending virtual hugs.

I had lots of cramping. It was similar to labour to be honest just intense and in a shorter period of time. I wish I took pain relief when I felt the cramps begin. I the passed a big clot and knew it was all over.

I didn't have scans to check just hcg levels monitored. I'd ask for your hcg checked today then you'll know if you need to go ahead with d and c next week.

Just so you know as well, you may be able to take Misoprostol if you still have retained product, if you don't want to have a d&c.

I just went through this this month. I too worried about needing a D&C but turned out all was fine. Bad cramps for one day, everything passed, then bled for 10 days. Then it all stopped. So long as you dont have any pain or cramping or discharge once everything has passed, you can just wait it out. I didnt have another scan. Im now just waiting until a new period so I can try again. Everything happened naturally for me. After reading the Ashermans syndrome sticky thread, I was really really keen to avoid a D&C.

Doctor said it's up to me so i said no. I have had multiple D and Cs due to endometriosis surgery so I was keen to avoid another one too.

With both of my losses (one at 6 weeks and one before 5) i just had like a normal but very heavy period with lots of clots. I was told at the time by the OB if i am still bleeding at the same pace after 7 days to contact him.. so i never did. I just assumed that i had passed it all naturally. If you get a fever or have symptoms of infection id see a doctor.
