I think you most certainly need an accountant to have a look at this arrangement. I cannot believe a financial planner is allowed to recommend such an arrangement as they are not qualified to give tax advice. I would hate to see you get audited and have to pay taxes back if it hasn't been done correctly.

I don't want to scare you but I think you need to get some specialist advice from a tax agent.

i agree with all of the above. although it sounds like there's plenty of us around, i do believe you should have a tax accountant sit down with you and go over this face to face. it's too easy for vital details to get lost in translation online and ultimately, it you who'll wear the price (should you get audited, hit with extra tax, penalties etc).

Default Help! Any tax accountants able to answer a Q about an associated lease?

Thanks ladies, appreciate your advice. Think it's time to get a tax agent involved. Just need to find one experienced with associated leases!

You don't need a tax agent who has experience with associate leases - any good accountant can figure it out with a simple google search.

As for financial advisers not being allowed to give tax advice, that's actually incorrect. All financial planners must be registered tax agents now, or at the very least, be supervised by a tax agent. That's not to say you will get good tax advice from them though..
