Yeah she did have trouble zooming in and measuring.

I had my follow up scan today (7weeks) and it didn't go so well. Doctor at the scan place said it wasn't looking good and to prepare for a miscarriage soon.

Gestational age of sac - 7 weeks - bang on

Heart rate - 125 which is in normal range? They said it was slow?

Embryo CRL measuring 6weeks (measured 5w2d two weeks ago) but I don't think she measured it properly today (seems to be missing the head? However not sure where the yolk sac is) when I look at the image.

@mummymaybe someone told me you may be able to help?
I think the yolk sac is the the ring around the embryo. The bright ring you can see.

For 7 weeks the sac is correct and heartbeat fine as it would have started a week ago. On my 7 week ultrasounds, underneath the gestational age, it says plus or minus 5. My OB said you are measuring something minuscule and holding the probe at different angles can make a difference in measurement. So if you are measuring 6 weeks, it could be that if they had angled differently it could have read 6w3d if that makes sense?

Yeah that makes sense and I guess we are talking about mm.. I'm not sure that the yolk sac is supposed to be that big from what I have read. At least I am going to the OB tomorrow so will hopefully have some answers.

@nattie84 I am truly hoping for the best. Where did you get your scan done? I was referred to a specialist private women's imaging service for all my pregnancy ultrasounds. Cost was a bit more but they are ultra-specialised and had a specialist obstetrician sonographer (Dr) on duty to double check all scans and investigate problems on the spot. If there is a similar service in your state I'd highly recommend it for your next scan. Thinking of you xx

We had a very stressful start to my first pregnancy, I knew my dates got a faint positive at 10dpo went in for my dating scan at 6weeks, no heartbeat and empty sac measuring under 5weeks? Told to come back in two weeks if I hadn't miscarried. Went back 2weeks later heartbeat 95 measuring 5weeks 5days I was told I would miscarry any day and repeat scan in 2 weeks if I still hadn't and my ob would book me in for a d&c. I had the worst morning sickness and just felt my baby was fine. I show up for my next ultrasound I was 11 weeks by my dates and a happy little baby was wiggling all around still about 5 days behind but alive. Never got any answers as to why but I now have a healthy 16month old. I hope everything is fine

I changed to a private midwife after this and she said she doesn't get this "dating scan" for people who know dates it can just cause unnecessary stress.

I think most fertility clinics do a scan at 7weeks to check viability and heartbeat.
