Default PCOS/Low Sperm Count - want to avoid IVF/IUI?

Hi - just wanting to get some thoughts and see if I'm thinking correctly or if I'm going to waste my time.

I have PCOS and at his first SA my partner had a low count. We have a repeat SA in a few weeks and he's now on menevit to help. I seem to be ovulating, just not in any sort of a predictable way.

Specialist basically indicated moving straight to IUI if partner's count improved, and IVF if it doesn't. I'm not sure I want to jump straight to that.

Is it crazy of me to ask her to give us six months using tracking and medication? Partner has a 5 year old son already, so we know his swimmers have worked. I'm hoping with the menevit, our lifestyle changes and actually knowing when I'm ovulating that we might have some success.

I would just prefer to know that I've tried everything I can to do this without major intervention. IUI/IVF also isn't in the budget until at least next year and I'd much rather keep doing something until such a time that we can afford it.

Not crazy at all - just be honest with your FS and put some time frames around it and go from there

If you can't afford the procedures for a while, you would be silly to do nothing in the meantime, and the FS would be silly to let you do nothing!

Trying a "Hail Mary" isn't going to waste any extra time than what you are going to miss anyways

Good luck and I hope you can find a middle ground (and that it works)!

This was my husband and I and we had been trying for two years. Even after losing 22Kgs and my husband 13kgs nothing changed. Menevit did nothing. Even increasing the times dtd did nothing. So Ivf it was. Took 3 cycles to get dd and 2 to get ds.

I don't think it's about jumping into things, I think your fs knows you want children so they giving you what's best.

Certainly everyone reacts differently to supplements and I hope in your case it does. Just giving my experience.

For years we fought doing more than medications with ds. It took weight loss from me, dh going away and taking high strength magnesium for cramps (he went away for a cricket carnival) and 48 hours back together to get our son. We have flipped between doing nothing, to full blown treatments ever since DS was 9 months old (he is now 8). I guess it all depends on what kind of rush you are in. If you want to take it slow, than do so. Work on both your general health and fitness, look at all the things that can help improve sperm health (remember it takes time for this) and also look into alternatives for PCOS. Talk to your GP and or gyno about it.
