Default OB reccomendations at North Shore Private Hospital

    Hi there,
Found out I am 8 wks pregnant over the weekend and have been told to decide private vs. public and book and OB ASAP!

I have read some previous threads from 2015 but a lot of those recommended are either winding down or retired. Keen to see what recommendations you may have as well as approximate costs. Gill Burton has been a recommendation but if he cost $7k in 2014, I'd imagine he might be around $10k now which might be too much for us. šŸ˜¦

    Thanks in advance!

If you are in a low risk pregnancy category and in the catchment I cannot recommend the Ryde Midwifery group practice enough. The midwives are absolute stars. I have had both if my two there. I was completely petrified of labour with my first and through the appointments and check-ups I was not scared and felt really prepared. The post birth follow-ups where they come to your home to check on you and bubs were exactly what I needed and offered me huge peice of mind. If you are able to go for one of the maternity tours to see if it's for you.

I used Steven Tan in 2013 @ NSPH.
I didn't care too much for his personality (I think I'm the only person on the planet who didn't like him), but on the day (planned c section) he did a brilliant job and his follow up care was good too.
He was about $5k from memory around then.

7 weeks with bub no 1 and also looking for good OB at NSPH.
My friend recommended Colin Walsh - she said he was very good. Has anyone else used him before?
    Thanks, L x

Default OB reccomendations at North Shore Private Hospital

    Congratulations on your pregnancy!

I had dr tan for 2 of my 3 pregnancies (2011 and 2013). He was amazing back then. Only reason I didn't use him again last year for my 3rd is because I wanted a different hospital. I recently recommended him to my friend's sister and have heard really great feedback.

You can always meet the ob of your choice and if you don't click right away, try someone else. I started with a different ob at NSP in 2011 and switched to dr tan at around 16 weeks because I wasn't happy with my original ob..

Dr tan charged around $5000 for both pregnancies. Not sure what he charges now.

Are you 100% set on NSP? Have you considered the mater instead? I've heard it's much nicer. I wasn't so happy with NSP myself, hence switching for #3 to the San in upper north shore

Default Thanks for the comments so far!

    Thanks everyone!

eyelet80: I checked the RNSH for their midwife group but they are already full for November delivery!! My only concern with the midwife group was that you are expected to go home after 24 hours because the after home care happens with visiting midwives. Given its my first, I am not sure if I would like to go home straight away.

witherwings: I have visited both mater & NSP visiting friends and I don't like the feel I get from the Mater - I know its a fab hospital but something about it doesnt sit well with me - sorry, I really cant explain it.

Special K: I heard Steven Tan has one of the highest rates of ceasers --> is it because he specialises in complex patients? Did you feel like you had no choice but to have a c/section?

So far, I have contacted the offices of:
    Janet Vaughn
    James Bacon
    Christopher Smith
    Steven Tan
    Gill Burton

Gill has come in the most expensive at around 6.8k and the rest are all around the 4.5-4.8k.

Will let you know what I end up deciding.
    x

@Kdes7102 I had my first at The Mater and I didn't love it. I'll go NSP for my second.

I used Dr Evelyn Chia. Her rooms are in chatswood and she delivers at both Mater and NSP. I had a high risk and complicated pregnancy and she made me feel so calm and gave me so much information and put my options out on the table for me to choose. I'm extremely grateful that she was my doctor and was there to guide me through some tricky choices.

Feel free to PM me if you want to know anything more about her

Oh I loved Evelyn Chia! She was the stand in for my Obs when he went away.
I'd use her in a heartbeat!
