    Big no for me too.
I've defrosted chicken on the bench plenty of times but the middle is still always semi frozen (keeping the rest cold) when I get it and then finish the defrosting in the fridge.
He cooked and ate them @Sairz and he's fine - he has an iron stomach though! He will leave his ham sandwich in his lunchbox all day without an ice brick to keep it cool. He does this every day. So gross but nothing makes him sick

This is my husband too. He only uses a brick because I put one in there when I do lunches. He also says I don't need to use one in winter. But I'd rather use a brick than deal with possible food poisoning of the kids! Plus, they don't often eat all their lunch at lunchtime, but finish it off on the bus. So at least then I know it's still cold and fine to eat!
