I also finding it so daunting when trying to work out how much to pay someone.
I'd start off with working out how many hours of work this is, then have a look at how much people pay cleaners and babysitters per hour, ( these jobs seem like the closest to compare with) to get an idea, find some middle ground, and if the person is using their own car, I'd take cost of petrol into consideration.

We had someone do school runs for us for a bit and paid $60 pw but they lived near us so it depends on that.

Shopping and cooking another included... maybe $300pw

ETA: It depends on time too. It's easily a 1.5 hour drive each way for school here.
Another 2 hours for shopping and up to two hours for dinner.
    So for us that would be 27 hours = 15 (school 5 days) + 2 (shop once a week) + 10 (5 dinners).

If I was doing that job, I would expect *at least* $120 day and that is stingy imo.

It would cost at least $100 day for before and after school care ($50 with rebate) so with petrol and shipping and cooking, I would expect more.

    I'd charge as follows:-

    40km per day (I presume using my own car) @ 77c/km = Roughly $150

Driving time (allowing time for collection of children etc) 5 hrs per week @ $30 = $150

Presuming shops are close - Shopping and cooking time 5 hrs per week @ $30 = $150

Total for the 5 days = Approx $450

I'd want the 77c/km for 'fuel' as it's not just fuel per se, but also wear and tear on my vehicle. I also think $30 per hour is more than reasonable to ask for as an adult. Babysitting rates for a 16 year old don't really compare for me to be honest.

Given that it's cash in hand I'd say $20 per hour plus $0.60 per km. If it were a proper business paying GST, income tax etc I'd say $30 per hour.

My hubby charges $0.50 per kilometre for travel and that's on the books.
