Default what is the most you would pay for a childs dance costume / activity ?

I had DD's dance competition today (well - its a series of comps, and the first one was today)

I was astounded at the amount of girls who had new costumes made - and the cost of them.

The actual competition is 10-12 weeks of private coaching, then 3 competitions ... and it costs on average about $500, plus a costume.

There are a lot of costumes available to hire (its about $50 to hire) - and the coaches all know each other very well so hiring is fairly easy.

The average cost of a new dress is between $400 - $500 (so making it up to nearly $1,000 for the comp)

I was pretty astounded by the number of people who had costumes made - for 10 and 11 and 12 year old girls.

so - How much would you pay?

I think the cost of costumes are absolutely ridiculous. Last year DD1 did numerous routines at a cost of at least $300 per costume plus a pair of shoes per dance style. I have to admit the pockets are a lot lighter now that my girls have decided to pursue other sports.
