I think the sit down idea is nicer, as it means you're 'forced' to speak to people at ur table (assuming sitting it designated) where as if it's informal, the friendship groups tend to stick together and the stragglers (like me) feel a bit left out.
Yeah this is what happened at our 10 year- it was just at a pub and everyone just hung out with their usual group of friends! I said to dh how is this a reunion, it's just another sat night out at the pub (regional town so most people still had the same group of friends for years and years).

I like the idea of sending in photos and songs of that year.

I could never be stuffed organising such an event though and I think most in my year are the same so probably the 20 year would be as disappointing as the 10 year lol.

And all the people who you really wondered how they turned out.... the loners and those who were a bit different , those who vanished etc well they were all no shows as nobody knew how to get in touch with them

Also I think Facebook has taken a lot of the fun/mystery out of reunions. We all pretty much know vaguely what happened to people etc and that's the only small talk you can make!

This is very true. My class didn't even have a 10 year reunion, because we're fb friends with all the people we're interested in keeping up with.
I think our school only organises 20 year reunions so I guess we'll wait for that!

Both my 10 and 20 year reunions were held in function rooms above pubs. Our 20 year was a bit more formal (as in the venue was quite upmarket, ditto the finger food and a few drinks were included). We paid a ticket fee for both. I think the 20 year was about $50 but was worth it. The function area was really great - more chance to catch up and you feel like you're at a private party rather than in a pub.

My old school actually organises the reunions so they are reasonably structured - whole venue booked and catered. We have to rsvp and pay beforehand. Usually drinks and canapés are included.

My 10 yr and 20 yr where at a pub (the same both times). I went to the first one but couldn't be bothered with the 2nd. The girls that organised them both it was all about them and how "perfect" their worlds are and who has the biggest diamond the newest car and the most expensive house. Things hadn't changed from high school. I remember at the first one I'd just moved back from regional nsw with work and one of the girls (the most normal) was trying to have a conversation with me about our lives and where they had taken us. But she wasn't allowed to speak to certain people if they where never part of the "A" crowd. Still to this day 22.5yrs later since high school has finished NONE of them have changed what so ever. But I can say a few have been traded in for younger versions
