    Default Testosterone/DHEA for IVF??

Hi, I had two failed IVF cycles and my FS says it is probably because of my low egg quality. I searched online and many people mentioned DHEA. So I asked my FS whether he could prescribe me some. He says Testosterone in DHEA is actually what works and he'll email me the prescription. According to him it is a gel and you just need to put it on your skin. HAs anyone here used that gel before? Does it work?

I was prescribed Testogel but didn't end up using it, as we ended up using DHEA instead. DHEA needs at least 3 months to show effects, and we were initially planning to start straight away, so Testogel prescribed which must show effects more quickly. As it turned out, we did wait a bit before starting, so my FS prescribed DHEA instead.

@JustJaq Thank you very much. Since I won't start my cycle until August, I think I'll ask my FS to prescribe me DHEA

@Lorri, my case may well be very different to yours, and your FS has no doubt prescribed the gel for a reason. If you want to know why, by all means ask, but i wouldn't be demanding different treatment based on what some random (like me) says, or a bit of Google reasearch tells you.

I've seen a few of your posts questioning your FS's advice, questioning your clinic. If you're not confident in their treatment and advice, change. FSes are specialists, and have studied a long time to do what they do, as well as being required to keep up to date with their knowledge. My advice is listen to your FS - by all means ask questions, but they do ( aside from a small minority, I'm sure) know what they're doing, and have reasons for doing what they do. Again, if you're not happy, change FS and/or clinic.

@JustJaq Thanks for your advice. I have changed my FS and made an appt. My new FS won't be able to see me until August. At the same time I asked my old FS to prescribe me the meds. I have totally trusted him however, after two failed cycles he didn't prescribe me any meds or give me any advice on how to improve. After these two failed cycles I realize I have to take the initiative instead of putting my fate into someone else's hands. It is our body and we do know it better than anyone else. Plus, FS has many patients. I'm sure they are very devoted and responsible but no one cares your body then anyone else does.

@Lorri, I hope you have more confidence, and some luck, with the new FS.

However well patients know their bodies, they don't know the treatments. FWIW, some people think they do worse after taking DHEA. Totally up to you of course, but if i were you, i would wait to discuss with your new FS first.
