I realise what I forgot about our names now.. our surname starts with C so Claire sounds quite harsh with it. I don't like my name now that I'm married because of this. Our surname is a sharp one syllable C name, so like Cross I suppose without giving my name away.

I'm still in the ttc stages but I really want a boy but can not think of a boys name I like, I have a girls name that I just can't shake. My son was so hard to name.

I really like what pp said Lilah Claire

I think the main thing to remember is that it doesn't matter what any of US think, it's what YOU like! And trust me, I get the pain - I asked a similar question myself on BH once and after reading all of the kind and well thought out answers it came to me ... I have to be in love with the name we pick!

When you pick the right name, you'll know it. You'll feel that it's the right fit.

The other suggestion I would make is that you can narrow down your name search by finding out gender. We were dead-set against finding out but when the name drama was at it's height, finding out gender and being able to rule out half the problem was a blessed relief! Perhaps that's something you could consider. We found that once we could settle on either girl or boy, we became more focussed and had our names picked out within 2 days

Ok so after my Gran's funeral today, I have decided that it is not something I need to do, as in using her name as a memorial type thing. I love my Gran so much but I think it is ok to go down another path.
    I'm now thinking..

Lilah Elizabeth C (I would have called a daughter Elizabeth one day but someone in our small community has just had one so I would prefer not)

Xander James C (Xander is still not jumping out but my goodness we cannot find anything else!)

Could you reverse it and do James Xander? I don't dislike Xander but it has a bit of a harsh sound to it (I hope you know what I mean, I don't mean it disrespectfully) which is maybe why it's hard to pick it for a baby but would probably be fine when they were older - I hope that makes sense

Or perhaps Alexander James and then use Xander as a nickname? I like James Alexander too...

    Condolences on your Gran too

    Thank you!
Alexander would have been in the running but I am a school teacher and have had way too many naughty ones come across my path over the years lol. I just can't do it!

Ha ha I can totally relate to that! There are a few names that were immediately banned from my list too...

    Good luck
