Default Dr Anthony Lighten Appreciation Thread

Dr Lighten is truly my hero, he has a special place in my heart. He was so positive, knowledgeable, experienced, friendly and supportive, I owe him so much. I did 11 BFN cycles with several fertility specialists at 3 separate fertility clinics and none of them were as fantastic as Dr Lighten. I fell pregnant on my first cycle with him. He tried so many different things and they all worked together to help me finally get pregnant for the first time since trying in my 7 year struggle to have a baby. I thank him every day

Wow, this makes me feel awesome, thank you I'm so glad I can somehow pay it forward and help others. I just had such an awful IVF / infertility experience, as I know others do too, that when I found Dr Lighten I just couldn't keep it to myself. I had another lovely Hubber reach out to me to thank me for my feedback on Dr Lighten and we all agree how fantastic he is and he genuinely wants to help us and do his best to bring home a baby.

Thank you again for your kind words and I wish you all the best on your IVF journey, you're in great hands

Thanks for your review too. Helped me take the plunge to make him my next FS.
I just saw my gynae a few days ago for a routine pap smear. She did an ultrasound and vaginal scan and said she found no signs of endo. So confusing have to trust Dr Lighten!
    Thank you @opheliadaze

But I'm with you, trying 3-4 months naturally sounds great if we were 10 years younger but with age against us I think I would compromise and see if trying naturally for 2 months would help.

Who needs permission to hug Dr L, just do it honey! I have and I think I even gave him a kiss on the cheek whilst his wife was in the next room LOL. We even have a photo taken with him.

Actually, all this talk about Dr L makes me want to go back and say hello. I did that when DS2 was 3 months old and it was Christmastime. I also popped into Genea and my OB/Gyn, who were all in the same building. I felt awkward going back to visit because I was scared there would be paitents there and I would hate to make them feel sad/upset/angry that I'm coming in showing off my son. When I told the staff this they took it the other way, that their patients can see that they do have success and would offer them hope.

Anyway, just so happy for you that the lap went well, endo was discovered and removed and you're all ready to go make that baby

It’s so frustrating when we go to so many FS’s and something as simple as checking for endo was never done. It’s hard to know if your eggs are OK or not, which is probably why Dr L wants you to try naturally first. And it also shows how he’s not into this for money otherwise he would have just said to do IVF straight away.

His wife doesn’t work with him, I think she just came in for the day, she wasn’t always there. Stella is wonderful and so is Sarah, she was the other receptionist I saw some times.

You always say such lovely things, thank you.

Definitely no more bubs for me. I’m content with my 2 boys and no way do I want to go down the IVF path again. Even if it is with Dr L

I’m so hopeful for you now, I have everything crossed for you lovely

Hi @opheliadaze, endometriosis can affect fertility in a few ways, whether it's blocking tubes or scarring the uterus which affects egg & sperm flow or implantation. It can attack the ovaries, causing damage to eggs. I found this link which may explain it better than me http://www.ecca.com.au/infertility-

The good news is that it can be treated and once removed gives us a better chance of conceiving

And the next course of action? ☄☄☄ baby dust to you over the next 2 months ☄☄☄ did he mention what kind of ivf treatment he would do?

Did your other FS ever consider endo as a cause? I asked my current FS and he said it was possible I had some endo but to go in and do surgery may further affect my ovaries and amh levels. Dr L assured me he was careful and a highly specialised surgeon.

Another FS also told me to consider donor eggs throughout my first IVF cycle...I hadn't even gotten to egg pickup yet.

Thankfully, we found a new FS who tries to treat the root of the problem instead of just asking us to do multiple cycles.

Are you currently on any supplements? Dr L told me to stop my supps and eat healthy!

Hi all- just came across this post and wanted to offer encouragement- dr lighten has been my fertility specialist since 2014 and at the initial appointment says he thought I had endo, something my gp said I didn't have as it didn't show on ultrasound... had a lap done with dr lighten and of course found stage 2/3 endo. We were given 6 months to try naturally... thus so didn't work and in June 2015 I started 3 months zoladex to then do ivf as this can increase success in endo patients... in August we started ivf and I had a long 14 day stim period... we retrieved 10 eggs- 8 fertilised and 3 made it to day 5... 1 was transferred and the other 2 frozen... that cycle failed.

We returned in may 2016 as other life things happened in between and dr lighten thought we were in still with good chances for a successful FET... in July 2016 we did a natural cycle FET with no drugs and I got a bfp!!!!
DS is now 4 months old and we can't wait to return to dr lighten soon for #2!

I took him in when he was 8 weeks after arranging a time with Stella (also
Visited Genea) and dr lighten was so happy to meet our boy he helped create- he stared at him looking like he was going to cry happy tears. He asked a lot of questions about the birth and we even chatted about his upcoming holiday at the time. He then thanked me for brightening his afternoon as he was about to make a difficult phone call to a patient.

One thing though- he and my obstetrician both said the best chance for a second successful FET is to do one as soon as breastfeeding stops

Thanks for that- we did ICSI as DH had some slight issues with his sperm... the whole process was so lovely as the whole team at Genea are awesome.... you probably won't see dr lighten until egg retrieval but he will review all your monitoring results before having the nurses call you to let ou know if anything needs to be changed... I was on Gonal F, then added Luveris for the second week to help speed up the follicle growth... then ovidrel for the trigger and crinone for the progesterone.... with the FET however I had no hormones till after I ovulated naturally and then used progesterone suppositories that I had to buy from dr lightens office instead of the crinone.... they clearly worked better for me :-)

Good luck with the cycle and let us know how you go!
