Default Harmony test - worth it IYO?

10weeks today! GP has given me some options around my next test which is screening for Down Syndrome:
    - None (not for us, we'd like to be prepared)
    - Standard (affordable, probable result only)
    - Harmony (pricey, 99%+ accurate)

We are thinking of spending the $$ and doing the Harmony test, and I was wondering if anyone here could share how much it cost them, and also if they thought the investment was worth it? Also, did you opt for the gender testing and was it reliable?

    TIA!

    Congratulations!

I had it done through genea and it was $445 I'm not sure how much the harmony one is.

For me it was worth it to have that extra peace of mind that everything was ok.

They automatically test for gender, I opted not to find out though as I'm leaving it as a surprise, I only wanted the test done to check for the abnormalities

Hubby and I decided to do the Harmony test in conjunction with the standard testing (scan and BT) which is widely available. From memory the Harmony cost us under $500 - I can't quite recall if it was $420 or $450 but it was somewhere in that vicinity.

We had the help of an egg donor for our pregnancy and she was only 32, BUT hubby and I are older (hubby is 53 and I'm 42) so for us we had to consider what would happen to our child (after we are gone) if it was born with a significant disability. We are not well-off and so had decided ahead of time that if the scan showed up an abnormality we would have to consider termination.

Obviously that is a very personal decision and if you would proceed with your pregnancy in the event of there being an issue present anyway, then perhaps the Harmony would not be money well spent. Happily for us, it gave us great peace of mind and we were able to move forward knowing everything was ok.

We did not choose to find out the gender of our bub with the Harmony testing. There was a box to tick on the form if you wanted to know, but we left it blank. In fact, we decided we wouldn't find out at all. But then of course I went off to my 20 week scan - without hubby, as he was at work - and I caved in and asked! So if you're not sure that you want to find out yet, you can always skip the gender section on the Harmony test and find that out later on

Thanks so much @two souls and @Blossom74, good insight and thinking. DF really wants to know as much as he can as early on as he can, & we're not spring chickens either so that's important.

We had it done - a surprise natural pregnancy at 42 so we wanted peace of mind. It was $450. We wanted to know gender as well. It was absolutely accurate for us in terms of gender and clear of genetic abnormalities.

    Best of luck.

We had it done. I suffer from anxiety and it was hugely reassuring to me to get the results back from the genetic tests. It was also lovely finding out the gender so early - 20 weeks is a long time to wait otherwise. It was accurate for us too. I was very happy we had it done and will definitely do it again for any future pregnancies.

We had it done as we came back high risk for a trisomy after the 12 week tests. For us it was really important to determine more accurately about the health of bub without needing an amnio or cvs which posed a small but real risk to bub. We decided to find out gender at the same time too.

I didn't do harmony... but had the standard BT/Scan come back with a high risk I would have done the harmony to find out more before deciding on amnio... so just remember you don't have to get the harmony done straight away, you can get the standard testing done first & still use after if you feel you need to.

    Exactly the same for us.
Cost around $400 and the gender was correct. I've heard the only time the gender might be a little tricky is if you've previously had a baby boy. Sometimes there's some make DNA or whatever left in your blood and it can (although rarely) confuse the results.
