I volunteer in my community - I run a thriving weekly playgroup which focusses in providing support to mums & kids, & I think we do it really well. It's probably my biggest weekly commitment. I also run a monthly Early Childhood community event, which is highly regarded and well attended. I also run a community meals program, providing meals for people in need in our local area. I'm also the class parent representative at my child's school. I help out at our local community garden, and run the kids section of the garden. I love my volunteer activities, it keeps me busy as a SAHM engaging with the local community and using my skills and passion as an Early Childhood teacher. When I return to work, I wont be able to volunteer any more, so I make the most of it now. I would never expect that others should help out or volunteer their own time - I do what I do because I love it, and IF others' want to help, great! But they dont have to volunteer just because I do. I do get annoyed when someone joins the volunteer team then proceeds to not show up or follow through with their commitments - it's very hard running a team when most of the people dont bother showing up. So I do tell people before they commit that if they want to join the team, we need them to be semi-reliable (...as much as you can be with young kids, anyway!)
