Default Cold symptoms or still CMPI

    Hey bh,

DD was diagnosed at 6m (now 10.5m) with CMPI as well as soy intolerance. I'm Bf'ing so I cut them out of my diet.

Her specialist recommended reintroduction in a few months.

The last 3 weeks I've been having milk in my coffee of a morning as the only source of dairy. The first two weeks DD was fine, no reactions. The last week she's had a cold/virus with a runny nose and she's also had diarrhoea. The first few days it was different to her CMPI bowel movements, but the past few nappies have reminded me of what she use to do when she was reacting to dairy/soy.

She hasn't been grizzly like she used to when she'd clearly have stomach pain. She's been her happy self even with the cold. Only thing being a little off her foods - still eating, just not as much.

Can anyone advise? Should I just cut out dairy again or give it a bit longer to see how she is once her cold has fully gone? How long can diarrhoea last with a virus/cold?

Also, when (at all) did your babies outgrow CMPI?

    Thanks x

    Hi!

Sorry that I can't answer your questions about CMPI, as I don't have any experience with it. But I did just want to say that when my kids were younger it was not unusual for their bowel movements to be looser when they had a cold. I was led to believe that it was due to the excess mucus they are probably ingesting (ew, I know) and also paracetamol can cause it too. If she doesn't seem like she's having pain in her belly, it may just be because of the cold ...

Hi Op, I don't have any advice with the CMPI, however I can tell you that all of my kids have had loose bm's whenever they've had a cold, as it's just all the gunk and post nasal drip/mucous and stuff that they swallow as unlike us adults they don't blow their noses and clear out their mouths as we do when we have a cold, so hopefully that may be the cause with your little one?

I tend to limit dairy as a given when there's issues of diarrhea and just keep up the clear fluids.

In my situation, I would cut out cow and soy again, and try again in a few months - but my babies were all on the later side of outgrowing CMPI & they react quite poorly to having any. I have a 4.5 & a 6 y.o who both started outgrowing their CMPI over the last 6-12 months. They can both have small amounts of some dairy (they can now tolerate cheese and milk baked in things, but cannot yet tolerate cows milk). My 2 yo still can't tolerate any traces of cows milk.

    Thanks for the help ladies.

I'll give her two more days to see if it passes with her cold & if not then I'll be off the dairy again. (Damn it, coffee was enjoyable again!)

My hot tip is oat milk (or almond or rice milk) in coffee and lindt 70% cocoa chocolate is also dairy free

Thanks! Am on to all of these but nothing beats a real coffee! The Lindt 70% is pretty tasty though so I'll keep that regardless. Mmm.

Bit of an update here. I gave DD another 2 days for to get over her cold and guess what, we have normal stools again! So she's tolerating the milk in my morning coffee yay! I think it was definitely cold related.

She also had a bit of grated cheese the other day and was fine. Looks like she's growing out of the CMPI.

Sounds like you've got a few reasons to be happy. That's awesome!

    Yay for morning coffee!!!
