Default How did you decide your wedding colours/theme?

Did you already know what colours/theme you wanted when you set a date? If not how did you choose? We've just set our date - 8 months away - I have no clue & am overwhelmed by all the choices lol!

I just chose my favourite colour (blue) and chose silver to go with it.

I can see why you'd be overwhelmed though, when I got married 10 years ago there wasn't inspirational things like Pinterest and Instagram like there is now, so having those sorts of platforms to look at and be inspired by can definitely be overwhelming with the myriad of choices/ideas!

All the best with your wedding prep, hope it all goes smoothly for you.

Ha! I picked blue too! Again, it was my favourite colour so it was an easy choice.

Both DH and I are fairly simple creatures, so our plan was just to have a nice but budget friendly wedding.

I'm not a fan of big foofy dresses so I had a white retro swing dress made for me - $400. Hubby bought a new suit $250.

We had a high tea in my brother's garden out on the farm - catered by family, and mostly cake, sandwiches, slices, coffee, tea and juice.

Our wedding cake was a chocolate mud cake covered in the thick white icing, with blue ribbons wrapped around the cake. My bouquet was blue and white flowers with the same blue ribbon wrapped around it.

I'd recommend starting with the date you want, booking a celebrant for that day and then finding a venue to suit. Then pick your colours and what sort of wedding you want and go from there. For DH and I it was all about celebrating our love. We didn't see the need to go into debt for our special day - it was all done for under $4K and was special anyway!

Pick colours you like. And maybe finding a venue will help.

I don't know if I had much of a colour or theme.

Bridesmaids wore black. The boys wore black suit/shirts with silver ties. I wore a silver dress. I had a pop of colour with blue shoes.

The venue had its own decorations. It was an old cold room turned into a winery that was packed with antiques. Tables had candelabras. Flowers were babies breath.

Our house is decorated in browns and greens (and natural textures like wood etc) so it was natural our colours were going to be browns and greens

Agree with a pp, if you are looking at lots of stuff maybe step away from it.
Can you go to a store and see some dresses already made in some different colours?
    What might suit your attendants?
I think those are the things I would think of.

I had one maid for my first wedding and she wore pale blue. I liked blue too lol
She has blonde hair and blue eyes so it looked great on her.
For my second I had no attendants. The dress I wanted wasn't in the colour I wanted. I can't even remember what I originally wanted now! I chose something else and it was nice but I didn't really like it and now I think why did I settle? I had a baby at the time so was trying to make things easier.

    Good luck !

    Oops I'm still half asleep!
Actual theme, I think I would be asking husband to be for a lot of input too.
You just have to look at your home and the things you like. That is your signature style

    Thanks for all your replies!

Mod-Uniquey & Blossom 74 - I do love blue & my hubby-to-be is a Ford fan so I guess blue is his colour too!

Bluebirdgirl - you're right, I do need to step away from it for a bit & clear my head. I think one of the issues is I'm pretty traditional & my DF is super modern... not sure how you cater for both.

I'm not having bridesmaids, the venue is sort of traditional country club style & I just put a deposit on a dress (eek), it's quite traditional too really.

I chose black & white - it's simple to coordinate and it will never date
