I've done both but I much rather buy one.
I'm not the best cook and I'm terrible, just awful at icing.
I also hate the mess of baking.

I prefer to buy and decorate. I usually do all the cakes for work for birthdays, baby showers or just coz we are celebrating something at the time.

I prefer to bake and decorate my own. I am definitely an amateur, especially with the decorating. But, I love baking, and love making things for the people I love. Having said that, I bought the cakes and cut/assembled/decorated for DS's birthday because we were staying at mum's house and I didn't have any of my supplies.

If it's something that I'm not fussed about the appearance, I'll bake it myself - brownies, slices, cake for a spread of food etc.

If it's a birthday cake for one of the kids, I'll generally get my mum or sister to make it! I'm sure I could make a beautifully decorated cake if I tried, but I don't really get any joy out of it, and they do.

I bake & decorate, it's a bit of a hobby of mine that I might do professionally in the future... it's tricky with little ones but I usually bake & decorate after they go to bed late night but I quite enjoy the challenge, it's amazing what you can learn from iTunesĀ tutorials!

Always bake. I love baking. Its a stress release for me. Especially for work things, its usually 5 minute job plus oven time so dont find it too bad at all..

I wont say I'm the world's greatest baker, my products dont look amazing but they taste great.

As for kids birthday cakes, baking and decorating is half the fun! I love feeling proud of my cake and seeing my kids faces, even if its not as good as a professionals

Make. If I could buy decent quality I probably would more often. But they always seem to have additives etc so I just make simple cakes.

Default Are you a "make a cake" or "buy a cake" person

I bake and make our desserts or "normal" iced birthday cakes or cupcakes and I would never buy one but I won't do DS birthday cakes for his parties so I have an awesome cake lady that I pay to do his birthday party cakes every year , 2 reasons - I'm not a great cake decorator and the cakes I get are quite elaborate and huge and secondly they would take days to do and I need that time to cook and prepare all the food for the rest of the party and organise the decorations!

    Buy!

I'm allergic to eggs and won't have them anywhere near me, so I can only bake egg-free cakes which generally don't turn out that great.
