Default Are you a "make a cake" or "buy a cake" person

    for work/function/cake stalls?

    for birthday parties?

my friend and I were having this discussion the other day - and it was interesting the different types of things people are willing to tackle

I'm put off by baking by the mess it makes and the cleanup required. I don't have a dishwasher either.

So I've never attempted baking, don't have the tools (like the mixer etc) and seriously time is limited, so I'd buy every time

Depends. Pre kids - bake. Post kids - if I can manage it bake. If not then I buy.

Definitely make. I'm not actually the baking type. I do it out of necessity (eg - I just baked brownies to freeze for school lunch boxes), but baking isn't a love of mine. Ditto cooking (but I do it so we are nourished!). Despite this, we always bake and decorate birthday cakes or bake for functions. DH and I do it as a team - I bake and make the icing, he decorates. It's actually something we enjoy doing together. I am currently in the process of baking 5 coloured round cakes to assemble our God daughter's birthday cake on Saturday (DH will do the arty bit). While I don't get much joy from baking the cakes I do get joy from the finished product.

I enjoy baking and a challenge. Doing it with 2 small children hanging around is not fun though! Sure I do basic stuff with my toddler, but fancier things like birthday cakes I make DH take the kids away so I can do it in peace. I quite like figuring out how to do new things by watching tutorials online.
If time is short I'll buy a cake but luckily my SIL makes amazing desserts (almost qualified as a chef, but didn't finish) so she always gets the job of dessert for family gatherings!

I always bake. Even though I am seriously time poor, I love baking. I will occasionally bake for the office, even if there is not particular reason.
