Default Cost of c section KEMH

I will be a private patient at KEMH in Perth with a high risk pregnancy, and I'm just wondering if anyone has any idea of what the cost of a c section, doctor's fee and hospital stay will be? I have private health insurance which apparently covers up to around $18,000 so I'm just wondering if it costs more than this. I can't get a straight answer from my doctor's office or the hospital, they just keep telling me about MBS item numbers.

I can't help but I'm also going private at KEMH and my ob is a 'no gap dr' so my understanding is all I'll need to pay is excess for health insurance. My health insurance told me that my ob was listed as 'no gap' - can u find out info from them maybe?

My insurance is based overseas as my husband is not Australian, so I'm not sure how Medicare fits in with all of that.

I went to KEMH as a private patient in 2014, but Medicare and my health fund covered it all. I saw all the bills though and I'm sure it wasn't more than $18K. I'd check my paperwork for you but have no idea where it went after we moved house!

Although I'm not in WA. My sec in SA was just over $15k all covered by my health fund and no gap. Paed & Ob extra which where $2500k with $2100 gap for ob and $1400 for paed with $200 gap

Last time I had a private c-sec, most of the costs were covered by private insurance. I was however out of pocket for the anaesthetis and paedetrician

Thanks everyone. Because it's an overseas insurance they just pay for everything but only up to a certain amount, so I just wanted to be aware if we had to pay any extra ourselves. It seems we might have to. If I wasn't high risk I would've been happy to go public.

You can call the hospital and speak to someone in accounts that could go through their fees.

Even as a public patient you will get really good care at KEMH. I went via the family birth centre and they took fantastic care of me - I had to go to the hospital for an ECV when my son was breech and then again after his birth because I had a 3rd degree tear and they were great. What do you get extra as a private patient? Your own OB?
