Default What to buy for baby measuring small....

Since 24 weeks I've been told bubs is measuring small but is still growing so not to worry (yeah right).

At my last growth scan on Thursday, 29+6, I was asked how big my other 2 babies were at birth. DS born 36w+6, 6pd 15oz (3.16kg) & 51cm long. DD born 38w+2, 7pd 4oz (3.36kg) & 48cm long. The OB doing the scan said this baby will be a lot smaller.

So I will be having a c-section mid to late 38wks as the hospital only does electives 2 days a week. That is if all goes to plan.

Anyway I'm starting to get everything I need for hospital together now & just thought am I going to need to get anything special for a smaller baby? We'll be in hospital for a minimum of 5 days. The hospital provides newborn nappies but that's it. There's no shops handy to the hospital for me to get someone to go buy anything we forget.

Do you think I should get some premmie clothing?

Any other things I should get just in case she's tiny?

    What size are they estimating?

My DS was 3kg and DD was 2.9kg.

DS wore 0000 that swam on him for a week or two. DD I bought 2 00000 outfits and the rest were 0000.

Nappies I used huggies for a week or two as they were the best for small babies.

They both gained weight quickly so I did not bother getting heaps of small stuff.

Maybe get a few 00000 onesies.

I didn't have a small baby but I've heard others say that some types of capsules are better for smaller babies.

My DD was prem and came home from hospital around the 2.4kg mark.

I was given a few 00000 outfits from Target. She had heaps of 0000s as well. Inconsistency in sizing between brands meant that 0000 did fit her - mainly the bonds stuff, but I think their sizing is more generous these days.

Nappies - I just used Huggies newborn size. Huggies do make prem sized nappies. The hospital used them, but they are very expensive and I found I didn't need them once we got home.

DD was 2.95kg born, we got 5 00000 onesies to get her through until she fitted 0000, it was only a couple of weeks. I've always found target baby clothes the smallest fit, she fit target 0000 first.

My last 2 babies came home from hospital at 2.4kgs, & wore 00000 for at least the first month, but they took ages to gain weight. Have they given you an EFW for the baby, or a percentile of what it is measuring at the moment? Also, has the baby been diagnosed as IUGR (growth restricted) or SGA (an overall small baby - less than the 10th%)?found preemie clothes expensive and hard to come by, so I stuck with 00000's and waited for my babies to grow into them.

Under 3kg, likely around 2.5kg going from her current growth rate. She's approx 1300g at the moment.

I didn't realize Target sold premmie clothes, will go & have a look. Thank you :-)

Bottle feeding & dummies in NB size should still be ok? Hoping not to have to use formula but after failing at breastfeeding twice & both those babies not being able to digest the proteins in milk it's highly likely this little one will need specialist formula to.

No they haven't mentioned IUGR or SGA. The specialist that did my growth scan on Thursday did check blood flow to & from the placenta which they said was good. They're monitoring for HELLP syndrome also as I had this with DS.

On the growth charts she's measuring under the 50th percentile but not hugely. EFW 1300g on Thursday, up from 1100 2wks prior.
