Sorry to slightly hijack but I have a question for those who have front loaders - how long do they generally last? We have top loader and want to go to front loader but I have heard that they simply don't last as many years as a top loader. Curious to hear what people have found.

We have an Ariston Aqualtis (or something like that) and we've had it for 9 years. We need to replace it soon. DH just fixed the seal on the front because it was leaking. The metal around the detergent drawer is going rusty. But the big thing is that one of the bearings has started to go (according to DH, anyway). It's making weird noises when it spins out. The sales people have all said to only expect 5-7 years on a machine. The aqualtis ones apparently have a 5 year warranty. We'll be buying a new one soon. But not sure whether to go with the same brand. Also have been looking at the Samsungs and whirlpools.

It depends on the brand. Mieles are supposed to last for 20 years. I've had mine for about 6 years and no issues yet plus it still looks brand new. I previously owned a Whirlpool and it was terrible. Only lasted about 7 years, was covered in rust around the detergent drawer and had every major component replaced but still died.

My old one was a Simpson front loader and lasted over 13 years. The only reason we got rid of it was because the seal was mildewy and I couldn't get it clean and it was old-fashioned and wasn't washing well. Upgraded to an lg last year and it's great, so quiet and good variety of washing cycles.

I had an LG front loader - it lasted around 12yrs and the only thing we ever had to do was replace the seal. When it finally died we replaced with the newer model - still going strong 3yrs and counting.
