People give my girls soft toys all the time, they're such a waste of space!

Agreed! But I feel like soft toys are sentimental so I can't chuck them out or donate like I would with other toys and games haha!

I got rid of a big bunch of them and kept just a few. Dd at 19.5 months has JUST started showing any interest in them. She's had a soft toy in her cot for a whole year and she's just started cuddling it and carrying it around. Cue me freaking out she'll get attached and then lose it so I hunted around online last week to find a spare
As to the op - my dd has never really been interested in 'proper' toys. She doesn't play with anything longer than a couple of minutes she'd much rather go outside and explore or get out of the house in general. Her favourite thing is a blank notebook and a pen she does a tiny squiggle on each page then must have a fresh one she also likes pulling all the books off her shelves or pulling all the Tupperware out just general mess making or playing with the hose and getting wet.
And of course she likes anything she's not meant to have!

This is my house too. The kids got some new sets for Christmas and it kept them busy all holidays!

I just asked them and for DS (7), the top 3 are:
    Lego
    Star Wars toys
Books. Specifically a Star Wars compendium book.

For DD (5), top 3 are:
    Lego
    Frozen Dolls and Teddy Bear
    Cooking in the (toy) kitchen

For outside, they both spend a lot of time on the trampoline and pool.
