Default 33 weeks pregnant and ongoing period-like cramping

I'm 33 weeks tomorrow, and this morning I started having intense middle back pain (to the point I felt that I couldn't breathe properly), and now I've got what feels like 'first day of your period' period pain that isn't going away.

I have no bleeding or anything else, so I'm hesitant to call my midwife and bug her if it's actually quite normal. Also, my DH is unavailable due to meetings at work until about midnight tonight, so don't want to worry him if it's not an issue.

Has anyone else had this or similar before?

I think you should call the midwife regardless. That sounds like pretty heavy pain and I think that anything out of the ordinary especially in third trimester warrants a call to the midwife. Hopefully it's normal and they can reassure you but it's always better to be safe than sorry. And you're not bugging them it's their job!! xx

I would call. Your midwife would much rather hear from you about nothing than you have an issue.

It's not 'normal' to have heavy cramping during pregnancy. Call your Midwife and get checked out. It could be nothing, it could be pre term labour. It could be many things in between. The only way to know for sure is to get yourself checked out. This would always warrant asking a woman to come in to be reviewed where i work. If you're concerned enough to ask the question in the first place the only way you'll be reassured is if you speak to your Midwife and get checked out. Are you getting tightenings with the cramping? If so, even more reason to get checked out.

ETA sorry, I don't think I could have said "checked out" more times if I'd wanted to. Brain is in a haze thanks to being sick and I'm not very articulate obviously!

I am a bit late but hoping you're ok. You did the right thing getting checked out.

I had lots of cramps this past pregnancy. Total pregnancy of cramps - at the same gestation too, and felt just like a period. I was worried about it, but cut down on my workload and cut out stress as much as possible. Also started a magnesium supplement (lack of magnesium can cause muscle spasms and cramps). They never progressed into anything; labour was normal at almost 40 weeks. Hope your middie puts your mind at ease and they just back off.

Just an update: everything seems fine. I wasn't having tightenings at the same time as the cramps, so she told me to monitor it at home. I sat on the couch watching friends reruns for a couple of hours and the pain subsided. Baby's movements also continue to be normal

I've been walking for over an hour every day trying to stay fit for labour, and yesterday I did 10kms over two hours. She said I may have overdone it a bit and to ease off on the exercise a little, so I'll just stick to one hour from now on.

Thank you all for your supportive comments and help
