I don't know Melbourne, how does this happen? Was it a pedestrian only area? I thought I read that. There are trams there though?
It sickens and disturbs me and also makes me angry wondering if there was a way to prevent such things.
The mall has trams running though the middle of it but it is a pedestrian mall so no cars. But because there's trams, it would be very easy for a car to just go through where the trams go.

I just read a ten year old died and a 3 month old and 2 year old are in surgery and icu
It's a terrible thing he couldn't have been somehow stopped before getting to that area, seeing as he was doing burnouts for a bit nearby.

I've only just seen this now. How devastating! That image of the pram is utterly heart breaking.. I feel so sorry for the loved ones of the victims.

I can't watch it. I read it once and cannot again.

As for the mall - it is wide enough to fit cars. It is a pedestrian mall but if it is anything like Queen St mall in Brisbane it generally has truck deliveries early in the mornings so it definitely has room for cars.

    So horrible and sad.

Well his FB profile has been found and it looks like he had this planned from at least a few days ago.

Just 24 hours ago I sat with my girls in Federation Square, which is at the intersection right where the driver was doing burn outs. We walked down Swanston Street where people were run down and waited for a tram in the Bourke St Mall. I am shocked and can't stop watching the news reports. So very very sad.

He should've been locked away. He was known to police.

He supposedly assaulted a man on Wednesday in order to steal the car and allegedly stabbed his brother this morning. It's just horrendous and how these people with history of such violence, drug abuse etc keep getting bailed defies belief. That's my families most used tram stop, when they were younger we'd go in every day as the tram was free and just wonder. It makes me sick to think that could have been any of us or anyone we knew.
