Default Pre-pregnancy vitamins while still taking pill

Just interested in what other people have done. We are getting married in September and don't want to fall pregnant beforehand so will still be taking the pill. Is there any point taking any vitamins, etc. a couple months beforehand?

    It depends really.

What I did is went to the dr to check all my levels of iron, vit d and also checked immunity in case I needed a top up of any vaxes.

I did this months before TTC. Not sure when you want to start (if its in September) but it might be worth getting it all checked in a few months.

If you are low you can take vitamins. If not then you won't need to.

I think they say to take pre pregnancy vitamins 3 months before so they can build up in your system

I would suggest you see a doctor for advice specific to your circumstances.

Having said that, in terms of vitamins, Folate would be my recommendation. It assists in preventing neural tube defects in the baby, but you really need to have it on board prior to conceiving.

It would also be a good idea to get your immunity to rubella checked because it can cause birth defects if you contract it while pregnant.

I started taking Elevit 4 months before going off the pill - it's just a multi vitamin so an added bonus. I had a blood test after 3 months to see if the vitamins were being absorbed by my body (a specific issue for me). I was recommended to start taking the vits 3 months before ttc so that if you fall pregnant straight away, you've got extra vitamins in your body
