What gets me is that she clearly and repeatedly told him what her wishes were, and he just totally ignored and went against them, just to appease his mummy. Then calls his wife selfish! Zero respect for his wife!

Oh I really hope this is fake cause it got my blood boiling... The whole thing was about his feeling and his mums... Not one thought about his wife's feelings....

I was actually impressed with the wife for sticking to her guns TBH - it would have been easier for her to just give in since he MIL had already arrived but had the guts to stand up even if it meant she had to birth alone....

It reads quite fake but even if this particular incident was made up/satirical I've certainly heard of similar and worse stories that are 100% true.

I didn't see it on the site, it popped up in my FB feed. But the article said the comments slammed him (as they should!) and he took the post down. I kind of hope it is made up, because that level of disrespect would be hard to come back from. He blatantly ignored his wife's well known wishes. Sorry mate, but Mummy is NOT more important on the day your wife is giving birth to your child!

I'll start this by saying I have a lovely MIL.

From the moment my DS' pregnancy looked like it was a keeper my DH kept asking if his mum could be in the room. He used all the arguments like,'could be only grandchild etc'. I said she had been at her own labours and she was a nurse so saw other people's as well but I wanted to keep it just us this time and maybe discuss it if there was a next time. DH didn't harp on it but did keep bringing it up now and then.

We live interstate from family, my in laws were staying to look after our dog when I was due. I asked MIL to my last OB appointment so she got to see an ultrasound of DS.

Went to hospital the next day, ended up in labour for 20hrs and then had an emergency ceasar. Just DH and I. DH later said he was glad his mum wasn't there as it took so long and also, she would have know what would happen next which would have freaked him out.

She was fine about it. I think it was more DH and he ended up fine as well.

From watching the American version of One Born Every Minute it seems to be the done thing over there to have your entire extended family in the room when you're giving birth. I could not think of anything worse!! 😵

When my little one was in the special care unit in hospital (premmie) my in laws wanted to visit. I didn't want them to as I was still recovering but felt guilty so I agreed. They are both lovely people too. But after travelling from SA to get here (NSW) MIL came down with a sore throat, I could have cried from stress watching her handle the baby. We couldn't exactly turn them around and send them home. So yep we all got sick (except for the baby strangely enough) and it lasted weeks and weeks on rotation. Just the last thing we needed. Wish I'd stuck to my guns. So many good reasons not to have visitors.

    Haha, yep! What she said

Or: "How do I talk to my wife about her behaviour today?"

    Dear wife,
Your behaviour was perfectly in line with a woman in the throws of labour. I am a douche canoe, and I can only hope one day I can buy a clue and learn how to put myself in the shoes of another, let alone someone in labour. Sure, I've seen all the tv shows that show a woman screaming and yelling in pain... To be perfectly honest I've just dismissed it all as drama, hyped up to make television interesting. I mean, up until this point I honestly thought pushing a 55cm head out of your teeny tiny v-hole would be a piece of cake.. because, well.. it's AD2017, and human kind has procreated and given birth pretty well so far, right?
But I am wrong. So, very, very, wrong. I didn't care about you, I only thought about myself. I thought I had cut the "apron strings" with my Mother, but apparently not. I therefore promise to Man the heck up, stop involving my Mother in matters that are between you and I as husband and wife, and also... I will promise to look after you while you recover from birth, because I have just found out that you will probably be in a whole world of pain.

Sorry I am a selfish a-hole. I love you. Please accept this diamond tennis bracelet.
    Sincerely, your Husband.

At least then you'd never have a delivery room dilemma again.
