Default IUI - first time fertility treatment

Hi ladies, thought I'd start up a thread for those experiencing fertility issues and treatment for the first time, sadly there seems to be a lot of us so thought it might be nice to have our own thread to chat

Our story, I'm 33 and dp is 39 turning 40. We have been trying for our first since April 2016, in September 2016 we asked our gp for basic fertility tests and found we have low sperm count, around 5million. We were referred to a fertility specialist and saw him for the first time in November after completing all our tests. Last week we underwent our first IUI. So hoping this works but if not the plan is another IUI in March and again in May if need be, then if still no luck IVF in July. We are regional so only have access to IVF 3 times a year, February, July and November.

Happy to chat if anyone has questions or wants to share their journey xo

    Thanks for making the thread

I'm hanging for Friday when I get a pergonal injection to stimulate my follicles ready for our first IUI treatment!

I'd love to know about the costs involved in diagnostic testing. I'm now in our 10th cycle TTC, temping for four, OPKs for six, and two incredibly short chemical pregnancies in that time.

    Hi All
Dh and I are both 30yo
Ttc for almost 16months and about to start IUI form prob feb or
    March cycle
@Kaya in terms of the diagnostic tests that I've had so far - ultrasounds $200 ($80 back from Medicare) blood tests (bulk billed)
    That's it so far.
Dh has had sperm analysis which I think was around $300 and he got about $80 back from Medicare
    Hope this helps

    Hi all,
@Kaya I agree with costs mentioned by trytryandtryagain, i also had to had an hsg, a hysterosalpingogram to check my tubes weren't blocked, I think this was bulk billed too. Fertility specialist cost about $150 an appointment though, but most of the iui is bulk billed, but be careful as there is some tricky 30 day rule along the lines of if you saw the specialist within 30 days from the start of your cycle that you are doing iui on then you can't claim through Medicare and it's then around $500... It's a weird rule

Hopefully you get lucky this/next month and don't have to go ahead with the IUI

Hi all, just realized in my background story above I didn't include that since end of December we have been also seeing an Acupuncturist for treatment as well as taking Chinese herbs. Dp has Accupunture and herbs for his sperm count and I have Accupunture for my anxiety and herbs to help my cycle, it used to be a normal 28/30 day cycle but in the last 5 months dropped to a 25/26 day cycle.

Accupunture is nice and relaxing and I'm sure my anxiety has got better.

Herbs taste horrible so I hope we get pregnant sooner rather than later lol

Default IUI - first time fertility treatment

Hi All! Firstly @kylez83 thanks for starting this post.

Thought I'd share my storey as it's different to Kylez83 so might be of interest to others.

My husband and I are both 30 and we have 1 child already who is 21 months old. My issue is not with actually getting pregnant as we have successfully gotten pregnant everytime we have tired - however my issue is with miscarriage- I have had 4 miscarriages 1 before my son and 3 this time around while ttc no2. So I asked my gp for a specialist appointment.

After a lot of testing we have found a few different issues - including pcos and a thyroid issue but they haven't been able to pin point the cause of the M/c (all early miscarriages around 5/6 weeks)

I have just started my first round of treatment which includes taking tyriod meds, metformin for pcos, and baby aspirin daily. In order to conceive because I don't ovulate regularly I did 25mg of clomid cd 2-6 followed by a trigger shot at cd13 (I have 1 follicle 20mm on my left side and lining was just over 10mm) now we are in the 2ww and if this is successful and I get a BFP I then have to go on - progesterone suppositories, daily steroids and blood thinning injections in hope that it helps the pregnancy stick!

Anyway that's a really long post so will leave it at that but if anyone has any questions please feel free to message me x
