    Default Being Australian.

    @MysticFalls Wow. I find your post to be incredibly offensive and insensitive. I have no idea how to reply to that diplomatically, without being rude.
    Although I will say, please refrain from using the term 'us whites' as it implies you're speaking on behalf of all non-indigenous peoples (and I for one most certainly do not share your sentiments).

    I think from memory you're a nurse, @MysticFalls? If so, some of your attitudes really surprise me.

    In times gone past, nurses were expected to wear head coverings too, weren't they? Were they being oppressed?

    @MysticFalls
    I know you probably won't be back to read this (because you don't "play that Sh!t)
    However not only did you not gain any insights from the past but you are also woefully ignorant regarding history. You make no valid reason for continuing to celebrate r@pe and murder, instead you use Hitler (Seriously? Hitler?) as an excuse to continue to celebrate r@pe and murder.
    While being indignant over female oppression. Are you serious?
    You want to be indignant over oppression, stop defending the celebration of r@ping thousands of women and children.

    Thank you. I completely agree.

    I will say the rhetoric of 'not looking backwards' simply isn't relevant to most indigenous people who still suffer the consequences today of the invasion and subsequent treatment over generations. The sufferings and disadvantage of today's indigenous people are *directly* related to the attitudes and actions of the invaders. Attitudes including 'scientific proof' that aboriginal people were subhuman; that babies should be removed from their families; attitudes of paternalism that continue to this day of government intervention in aboriginal communities; serious disparity in life expectancy, literacy and potential for income. It goes on and on.

    If you visit or work in predominantly aboriginal communities, the mistrust and fear of 'outsiders' is very clear.

    This is not past business that was put to an end with Prime Minister Rudd's apology.

    Isn't doggedly adhering to the date of January 26th for reasons of tradition, history and sentimentality looking backwards also?

    This is a gross generalization and you can not use this one personal anecdote to describe the situation of every Muslim woman.

    I am revolted by Australia Day. I hide. The sadness behind it and the drunken louts on the streets at 7 pm in Sydney. Revolting day.

    You should drive past Cronulla on Australia Day, it will make you embarrassed to be Australian, we went to a party at a friends parents beach house a few years ago, by midday there are drunken idiots everywhere ( mainly men) , walking the streets and beach, and just being loud and stupid , that's not celebrating australia, that's just an excuse to get wasted

    We spend every Australia Day in Cronulla and have never seen any of this - just families celebrating. I'm sure there must be drunken idiots everywhere though, not just Cronulla!!!!
