    Default Medicare

I had an iui cycle in October. I submitted my claim in November. Got a letter back saying we'd reached the safety net and would need to confirm something. The easiest way was the go in, so we did when school broke up (we are both teachers). Fast forward to now, still nothing, no email, no correspondence, no refund!!

I keep calling but I literally sit on the phone for an hour, to get either hung up on. I really don't want to have to go sit in the office for another 2 hours like I did just before Christmas to sort this out! Any advice??

My only advice is to go in just before closing time. Their service seems to move a lot faster when they want to get out the door.

Did you mean you had to confirm the people within your family for the Medicare threshold?

I realised I was over the threshold and wasn't getting a higher amount back until I called and questioned. Once I confirmed our family members, they said anything owed to me at a higher rebate percentage would be back payed. I followed up 4 weeks later as no extra money went into our account and they said (December) was a super busy time for processing these back payments but we would receive what we are entitled to in time. She said it could take up to 6-8 weeks.

@sprinkelle I would love to have some info on the iui upfront costs and what is covered by Medicare?

Also, sorry I don't have an answer for you as I haven't had that much experience dealing with them, but hope you get some answers soon xx

Are you on MyGov? I'm pretty sure I registered our family for the safety net on there.
Hope you get some resolution soon, it's extremely frustrating dealing with Medicare and Centrelink these days!

    1. I couldn't do it on mygov, and yes I have an account

    2. Its not a quick phone call, I haven't been able to contact anyone in less than 30 minutes in the last 3 months.

    3. I got irate today on the phone (I didn't swear but I certainly wasn't pleasant) and although I am not proud of it, I simply refused to get off the phone, continued telling them they have NOT solved my issue. Turns out when we got married and I changed my name and we went onto the same card we weren't considered 'a family'..?! However now we are 'a family' and we did not reach the safety net. They are refunding me today/tonight/tomorrow.

Also I was told a whole other team does these claims as fertility treatments are handled by a special group who need to check that you are entitled to claim before you claim. The way the woman explained on the phone 'you have trouble falling pregnant, medicare just can't keep paying for you to keep trying'.

I have submitted 2 complaints, one about the situation and one about the way the person (2nd person I spoke to who made the extremely insensitive comment).

Thank you all so much for replying. I was literally about to scream!

I find calling as soon as the contact centre opens to be the most effective.

but to say about ttc is incredibly inappropriate!

    Default Medicare

I work in admin for a fertility specialist and the amount of ladies who have had issues with Medicare lately is ridiculous. The amount of paperwork that Medicare have admittedly "lost" is gobsmacking. We've found the best thing to do is to suit your claims via the Medicare app or online via myGov but just isn't always successful either. The fertility centre will be able to print out more receipts for you. I'm so frustrated for you all!
