Default How do you organise your files/letters?

As the thread title says - how do you organise your files and letters?

Now that Christmas is over it's time to get the house organised for the new year. I have about three different piles of papers/documents/letters around the house that I want to get organised. How do you do it? What's your system?

    I am an organization freak.

I put all cards and letters in date order in a scrap book. One for the family..another for each of us for our birthdays.

Kids art work goes into another scrap book.

Expenses and receipts are in month order in a book.

Easy to find and in month order.

I swapped every statement or bill I could to online/paperless.

I chuck out all junk or unimportant straight from letterbox. Then I put all mail/paperwork in a box, anything urgent i action straight away. Then one night a week I sit down with netflicks for an hour and do admin so I file away everything in one of those accordian style file box by financial year. That way it's all there for tax time. Cards and letters in another box and kids stuff in their own boxes. Anything I have to pay or respond to, I do it then. So that way I've only ever got a weeks worth of stuff.

paperwork was taking over us and I find if its all put away in its place, easy to find it makes life easier.

    Alphabetical

    One for myself

    One for dp

    One for the business

I shred every 3 years but a lot of bills I get as paperless now and have files for each bill within my email account.

Junk mail generally goes in the recycling the same day it arrived

    Lots of great ideas. Thanks!

Definitely like the scrapbooking idea for kids artwork.

I might need to go out and buy a file - I like the idea of scanning everything but can imagine I would quickly get a backlog. @BH-KatiesMum where can I get a husband like that? Unfortunately I'm the responsible/organised one in our relationship.
