Because the names you mentioned are vintage and classy, I don't think Kylie is vintage or classy, it's just as tacky as the 80's were I'm sorry to say.

I think of Kylie Minogue too and probably doesn't help that I cannot stand her, the woman can't sing yet still made squillions from being a singer!

I also think of throw back 80's and put Kylie in the pile of Rebecca's, sarah's and Samantha's that I grew up knowing multiple people with that name.

I think those names you mentioned are grandparent and great grandparent sort of era names while Kylie is more like the kid I grew up with era if that makes sense.

You have mentioned both my kids in that list lol

As for the name Kylie, its not my cup of tea but at least its not a made up name!

I'm not a fan as it reminds me of growing up in the 80's and was a very common name.
I can see it coming back in vogue though , just not for a number of years, probably when my generation are in a nursing home!

Everyone has their own taste in names I guess. I wouldn't class the names I mentioned as classy, old fashioned, yes! And again, people love old fashioned names, others like unique, and some others popular/common names. In 20 years time people may be saying the exact same about the name Kylie!

When I try to think about the name without memory association, it is actually a pretty name.

Kylie was created in the 19th century. There's a nasty undercurrent on other name nerd sites that names are only "legit" if they were created before 1900 (and many are saying, 1800) and that no later names are legitimate. This belief is snobby, elitist, if not downright bigoted.

Are you starting a debate about the name Kylie?

Me? I picture my sister's Kylie Minogue 'locomotion' cassette cover.
