    Default Gastro (preventing it)

    Merry Christmas Eve folks.

I need your help. My DD had a friend stay over last night and this morning at 6am she woke up vomiting and then continued to vomit in the next half hour while I tried to clean her up and get her home. 4 out of her 5 family members had gastro between 1 & 2 weeks ago but she didnt get it then.

I'm worried that if she has got a late version of the gastro that we may now get it, just in time for Christmas!

Do you know if there is anything I can give the kids and take myself to perhaps prevent us getting it?

You can't take anything but bleach everything she touched and wash all bedding etc that she used. Wash all towels, and give everyone in your house their own towel to dry their hands on after they wash them, and make sure they wash their hands thoroughly before eating every time.
I've been doing this when one of mine gets gastro, and it has stopped it spreading through the house.
You can take a lot of probiotics which is supposed to help prevent it, but I don't know if that actually works.

I've washed the bedding. Am about to head outside and scrub the mattress clean. I've glen 20'd all the surfaces (including the iPad). Will bleach the toilet and basin. Might even grab some probiotics this morning and see if I can bribe the kids to take one.

    Thanks.

One thing that annoys me when people have gastro is that they don't put the lid down to flush the toilet. Faeces can be spread up to 6m when flushing without the lid down.

Proper hand hygiene, buy some gastro stop but only use it if gastro is present.

I would not have thought to remind the kids about the toilet lid. It's something I do automatically but I know they don't.

i also read that taking 2 teaspoonfuls of apple cider vinegar helps. I've managed to get it down diluted in water and lemon juice. It was revolting. No chance I'll succeed in getting the kids to do it.

We give DS the kids chocolate probiotic balls, you can just get them in the toiletries aisle in the supermarket. He was prone to getting every tummy bug around and it's definitely helped to reduce the frequency and severity of them.

And as pp's have said, disinfect everything! Including wiping down bathroom/toilet walls.

Bleach anywhere they touched...door handles, bench tops etc.
And tell your kids to keep their hands away from their faces!

It's going around my work. Thankfully I am free so far from it. Have been lucky the last few times we have had a breakout.
