With my two daughters we always use vulva (at home or in public), although my eldest (3.5ys) also knows what her vagina is (and that that is where babies usually come out). We also use the word penis. We have never used joke or made-up terms, although my 3.5yr old is just at the stage where she thinks the term "bum bum" is the funniest thing in the world.

Actually vulva is an 'all encompassing' term. It's the word for all external genitalia for females. It's technically incorrect to use the word vagina for the external genitalia because the vagina is literally only the external part.

Huh, how interesting. I've had doctors tell me that the use of vulva is specific to the external genitals inside the labia minora (and maybe it is in a medical sense). I thought the general usage was a colloquial one due to the lack of another suitable term.

It's p3n1s & test1cl1es, vu1va/v@g1na all the way for us but they are also familiar with the term "private parts" or "privates". DD gets a bit confused and says "vulgina"

Absolutely always use the correct terms. As a few pp have already mentioned it is very important in terms of child safety.

Fanny for vagina. And winky for penis.

It just sounds nicer. Will teach her the correct terms a little later.

I have already said that no one is allowed to touch her anywhere near her fanny, bottom or little breastas (breasts) as she calls it.

If someone asks to she is to shout no way hose!!!!!!!!!

She has been told that of someone tries and says don't tell mum or dad. That she MUST tell. Because that other person is lying!

My dd has a strong sense of justice of what is right and wrong

Proper terminology. Because of the whole p.aedophile issue, and because I hate nicknames for body parts...it makes me cringe when someone says 'w.illy or b.unny.' I was always raised with proper terminology, anything else sounds bizarre and childish to me.

I taught my dd1 straight from the get go she had a vagina- more so to p1ss of my MIL who is a total prude.
I remember once I took her nappy off at MILs and she told nanna that her vagina was cold- the jaw dropping to the floor was priceless. MIL said she shouldn't even know what that is yet and I'm like- "why? She's knows all her body parts- her head, feet and VAGINA!! That's what it is, her VAGINA!!!"

Oh and it's not bottom here. Bum, **** are fine

But shouldn't it be buttocks/anus not bum - if we're to use the correct terms?
