    Default New laptop advice

My laptop is on it's last legs. Hoping to get a new one in the sales but I have no idea how much I need to spend. Can any tech savvy hubbers give me some advice?
All we use it for is photo storage, occasional TV show downloads (use Apple TV usually), DH needs excel to keep track of his cattle sales/purchases, scanning the occasional document for work etc.
I'm toying with getting a mac as we have iPads & iPhones but they seem expensive compared to a windows based laptop.
Any advice is appreciated (DH has no idea when it comes to tech stuff so I need to figure it out)!

Not sure what your budget is, but something like this might do: http://gaminglaptopunder1000.org/

I've had HP notebooks and MacBooks and based on my experience, I'll only have macs from now on. In my experience they last longer and have had less issues than I have had with 2 previous HPs.
My current macbook I've had since 2010. It's slow now. But hasn't missed a beat in 6 years. It's due to be replaced and I'll get another one.

Highly recommend getting a MacBook. Even if you can't afford a brand new one, have a look on gumtree and see if you can get one with AppleCare if you want the extra piece of mind.

I bought a MacBook a few years ago after getting fed up with cr@ppy PC laptops and wouldn't go back

HP's are good just make sure you either have one with enough RAM and HDD storage, or if your thinking of cheap. I have a small one with only 4gbite and need my external hard drive storage. But if you have a computer program that needs more than 4 gig of space to run then you will need a laptop with enough storage. It won't run it through an external hard drive.

Stay away from toshibas. No good. I brought what i named my dream machine and it turned out to be a dud often breaking down and needing to go back to the shop in warranty. Then it did it to me 2 times out of warranty cost me $$$ to fix, the 3rd time it did it to me I got the techs to recover all photos and put it across to my external hard drive and told them to keep the damn thing. I got another computer and so far 1 yr on and no issues what-so-ever.

Feel free to ask anymore questions
