We were at a picnic today and I went to help DS(7) put food on his plate and I was shut down 'Mum I can do it myself thanks'.... he doesn't need as much help anymore . He gets his own breakfast and himself ready in the morning (even making his own bed). So independent.

So get him to make breakfast for you!! Nothing better than breakfast in bed!

When your 2yo says you can't have a cuddle, he won't have a bath, won't go and get his nappy changed because "no Mummy, I'm busy!" Complete with hand held up to say stop!

When your almost 4yo nephew says "it's not a sleepover, you're babysitting me". The little monkey broke my heart, I told him if you love someone it's a sleepover!!!

He has also started saying "in the olden days......"

When you can safely swear in front of your child [9yo] and know that they aren't going to repeat it because they're mature enough to know not to. I'm not a massive swearer, but I do slip in the word s.h.i.t more often than anything else. I tend to sensor myself more around 5yo DD.
