    Default Hawkesbury Hospital NSW

Hi there! My name is Jane, this is my first pregnancy and I got my BFP 2 weeks ago after going off the pill only the month before! Estimated at 6 weeks now but given the lack of regular periods I have a dating scan on Tuesday...so excited!

We live in Wisemans Ferry in the Hawkesbury so my closest hospital is Hawkesbury, about 50 minutes away. I have my referral from my GP and have booked in for the midwife clinic but I can't seem to find much current info on what it's like at this hospital going public. A few questions:

    1. What are the midwives like?

    2. Are they supportive of active births/water births?

    2. What is the aftercare like? How many beds to a room? Can my DH stay?

My only other options are Nepean which is about an hour and a half away, or Hornsby which is maybe an hour and 10 away. It's quite nervewracking being so far from a hospital!

    Thanks in advance! 😄

    Hi Janey87,

I am in the Hawkesbury area a gave birth to DD at the Hawkesbury hospital And I had my DS at Nepean.

Hawkesbury I had a C section in 2013 and they were all lovely midwives, I was very well looked after and didn't mind going public. I shared a room with another lady which was fine, I think the only down fall is the visiting hours and partners can't stay.

My sister also recently had her baby at hawkesbury and she also really liked the hospital and she was lucky and got her own room

Nepean I had my DS in 2007 and it was horrible and kind of turned me off going again. The staff were extremely rude and not helpful at all. But it may have changed by now. A good friend just had her baby 2 weeks ago at Nepean and she said it was fine but any appointments she had at the hospital would take hours and was never seen on time.

Hope this helps xx and congrats on your pregnancy

I was booked into Hawkesbury but had to stay at Nepean and then deliver. It is a better Hospital with better equipment and specialists.
If you go earlier than 34w you'll be sent to Nepean and if your Bub needs nicu you'll be sent to Nepean also.

I know hundreds of ladies that hve had babies at Hawkesbury and they've all been ok. The midwives are a little old school and have been there for years. the beds are uncomfortable haha I stayed there for one night.

My personal choice if I had a next pregnancy would be; If I had an easy pregnancy and delivered full term I'd go to Hawkesbury. Being the high risk I am I'm not even allowed to book in there next time
