Default Working school mums - WWYD?

I currently work 9am - 1pm, Mon - Fri (20hrs per week). DD starts school next year, so I'm very lucky to have these hours! She'll be at kinder Mon, Tues & Thurs and my Mum will look after her the other two mornings.

Due to some staffing changes, I have the opportunity to change my hours a bit at work, if I want. I could potentially work 9-2, Mon-Thu. I'm not sure which is the better option? I'd love to have a whole day off with DD, particularly during her first year. By Friday's she'll be so tired, I'd love to have one day where we don't have the morning rush to get out of the house. And when she's in full time school, this could be a 'me' day!

But it would mean going straight from work to school pick up on those four days. Finishing at 1pm gives me an extra hour to do shopping, errands etc without having to drag DD around. But I do get sick of all the rushing and I know DD does too

I was talking to a friend about it today who said, without a doubt, she'd choose to have the Friday off. Just after some other opinions from school mums trying to find the balance!

For me it's a no brainer- taking the Friday off. A WHOLE day to yourself- you could plan ahead to do most of your errands then if needed.

I would definitely choose the 9-2 monday-thu. I think a day off would be great - often excursions, sports days, etc fall on fridays which would be a great option to attend. 1 hour isnt enough to get anything decent done - by the time you rush to the supermarket or something, it will be time to get her.

Just to clarify DD won't be at school Friday's next year, so it wouldn't really be a day to myself until the year after Still sounding like the better option though!

I would take the longer hours and have the Friday off without hesitation. I'll be working 8.30 -1.15 next year Mon - Thu and would have loved it to have been 8.30 -3 over 3 days to give me 2 full days to get things done. I will definitely be needing my Fridays just to catch up on things at home and for appointments, shopping etc.

Definitely Friday off! Its pretty lovely having a long weekend and it makes those days or 'mummy days' as my DD calls them pretty special

I would go Friday off too. I work Mon-Thurs and love being able to focus on work for 4 days then completely tune out Friday. You can use it as an opportunity to have some extra quality time with your DD before she goes to school.
