There is nowhere to stay, no buses go there either. They're decked out on blow up swans, tucans and air beds.

Ok. I bit the bullet and rang...and asked them to just check on them and make sure they had a safe plan to go home. I was informed someone had already notified them and a car had gone out to check on them. So at least now I know they will get home safely.

That's great the police checked it out. A couple of weeks ago we were at the park with our kids when a car full of teenage boys drove up. They got out and proceeded to drink bottles and bottles of beer, would have been at least 4 or 5 each, threw the bottles everywhere leaving shards of glass all over the grass. I called the police since obviously they planned to drive home and they said there was nothing they could do, and I should call council about the glass. The boys then got back in their car and sped off recklessly and intoxicated. I was so disappointed in the police response. They could have at least checked it out. Those boys could have killed themselves or someone else on the road that day. I think you did the right thing by calling. DH told me I should stay out of it but I think it's important to be a proactive member of your community.

Parks in our area are all alcohol free zones. Maybe the police couldn't do anything if alcohol was allowed?
I decided if it was my teenager out there I'd be happy the community was keeping an eye on them. I wouldn't have forgiven myself if something happened and I hadn't made the phone call. Hopefully this way the story becomes a 'remember when we got drunk at the lake and the police came to check on us' memory instead of a 'remember that time we all got drunk in the lake and one of us drowned' type of memories.

But isn't driving while drunk illegal regardless of your age?

    I'm glad you rang.
If no one was planning on driving then no harm done by the police checking in.
    Better than the alternative.

I would call cops definitely. I would hate to think "what if?"
