    Default Books about periods/sex etc

My DD is nearly 8 and im thinking about getting a book for her (us) to read about periods, breasts, sex etc.

I was 8 when i got my first period so theres a real possiblity that she might too and i want her to be prepared. Ive always figured honesty was the best policy.

Ive already spoken about periods and babies...sperm and egg stuff but to be honest i think i go into too much scientific fact about it all...i have a background in nursing/biology etc.

    Any recommendations of suitable books

I think nothing beats the old fashion book 'what's happening to me' that explains periods, body changes etc then when you think she is ready 'where did I come from' which is all about how babies are made. DD1 (9) has read over them a few times then came and asked anything she didn't quiet understand.

Just editing to add, my friend highly recommends the book 'girl stuff' she thinks it really helped her daughter prepare for when her period arrived. The book discusses a whole range of things including drugs, bullying etc.

Funny this thread should come up as only today I received the book I ordered for DD1, which is 'What's Happening to me'.

I'm also going to get her Kaz Cooke's 'Girl Stuff' for girls aged 8-12.

I have just taught a unit at school about puberty and used this book 'The Amazing True Story of how Babies are made' by Fiona Katauskas. It was a short listed book this year and was really well written for children to understand.
