Hi. My 2 year old still wakes once a night a few times in the week. I found a lot of nurses offered advice but it was all different. Don't ever think you aren't a great mum. Every baby is different and I found through other posts that my baby's behaviours were normal!!! You are doing a great job.

With the food it might not be the taste but the texture he doesn't like? I'm a bit rusty on the solids things but have a look through bubhub for some ideas and info, some baby led weaning ideas would be useful?
Please don't feel like a failure because of the nurse, you obviously care a lot about your little one and that is the main thing! I've had four children and struggled every time with them learning to self settle and the ones that breastfed longer always wanted it overnight for comfort. They grew out of it and started sleeping better around 12 months.
