    Default Cervical stitch/cerclage

Has anyone had one that hasn't been too effective? I've just had one and I can't quite understand its purpose. I asked what happened if I went into labour still (terrified it would tear my cervix apart) and apparently I can still fully dialate with it in place? If bub wants to come early, it's still going to happen then right?

There is a Facebook page called Incompetent cervix Australia with lots of women who would be happy to help. I've got a permanent one which is a bit different, but why have they given you one? Are you on bed rest?

Thanks Woody1982 I will hunt that down my cervix was short at 20 week scan and then shortened in the 2 weeks after despite progesterone pessaries. It was 1.7 but no funnelling at this stage. If you don't mind me asking, why do you have a permanent one? Oh and no, my ob said bed rest is ineffective

I lost my first son just before 20 weeks because of my cervix (I hadn't had a scan to pick it up, I just went in with back pain and I was 4cm dilated). I chose to get a permanent stitch because they are over 90% success rate and Less chance of infection, and it can be used for subsequent pregnancies (although it meant I had to have a csection) Are you in Vic?

Bed rest is 100%. A friend had a stitch put in with her second and delivered him at 34wks. She also lost a little girl at 22 wks as she went un diagnosed.

So please rest as much as possible and do what your doctors tell you to do

I'm 22 weeks. My ob is Peter Tang? You're obviously from Melb too?

Thanks all im taking it easy. I seem to be leaking a bit of water particularly at night so I'm watching over it. It's definitely not urine so I'm not sure if it's normal post surgery stuff of amniotic fluid.
