Default Missed active BC pills in first week - chances of pregnancy?

    Hi,

I am concerned about possibly falling pregnant and was wondering if anyone could provide some insight on my situation.

I am currently taking a low dose of combined birth control medication (Femme 20/100) containing 21 hormone tablets and 7 placebo tablets.

I finished my inactive 7 pills on Friday (had a withdrawal bleed between days 3 and 5) but forgot to take the first active pill in my new packet on Saturday. The next day (Sunday) when I realised this, I took both doses (2 pills at once). That night and the next morning I had unprotected intercourse (which I also had on day 6 of my inactive pills). Unfortunately I then forgot somehow to take the next following 2 pills. So day 3 (Monday) and day 4 (Tuesday) of my first week of the new packet. So, overall I have skipped 3 of 4 active pills of week 1. It is now day 5 (Wednesday) and I have taken that pill today.

Am I at risk for a possible pregnancy due to missing so many hormone pills? Even though I doubled up on that 2nd day I would still be at risk, right?

I'm not really sure what to do now so just looking for some advice if anyone has it. Thanks.

It's been a while since I was on the pill but from memory, the pill I was on always said if you miss 1 pill, and realise within 24hrs, take that pill as soon as you realise and take your next pill as normal, but use alternate protection until you have taken 7 full continuous days of pill correctly.

There is always an increased risk of pregnancy when you don't take the pill in accordance with the directions.

If you are not looking to become pregnant, you can get the morning after pill over the counter at the pharmacy as a precaution or you can wait until your period is due and do a test to confirm. Just bear in mind that taking the pill may still result in a withdrawal bleed mimicking a period but may not be a real period if you are in fact pregnant due to missing pills.

Good luck with whichever option you take

You are at a higher risk of pregnancy if you miss pills at the start of the pack i.e. Just after you have taken the placebo ones, rather than in the middle of the cycle.

    Depends on when you ovulate.
