Default Kids going to play dates alone.

At what age would you let your kid go to one of their friends house alone for a play date? Would you have a different answer if you didn't know the parents? Not sure if I'm being over-protective or having a normal level of parental concern

DS was almost 7 when I left him, I'd met the parents a few times and liked them though. Wouldn't do it if id not met them.

Dd is 7 and I would only do it with a couple of friends that I know very well.
I would want to know the parents before I let her stay on her own

Kiddo was in year 1 but I also knew the parents from prep. Kiddo developed a range of friends since prep and he still remains friends with them now being in year 4.

ETA I wouldn't allow it if I didn't know the parents. We had kids here for a sleepover for kiddos birthday and I hadn't met the parents but spoke to them on the phone a few times before the party

Depends if I know the parents and if DS/DD had been there previously. And age.

Knowing the parents from 5...not knowing them...7, but I ask other parents I know who know them well. We live in a tight knit community, though.

DS was 4 but that was with a very close family friend and we often dump and run at each other's houses! His first play date without me with a school friend was last month but they do live in the same suburb and we've been going there all year so he was technically 6

My dd2 is 4. She goes on play dates without me, but only with her 2 best friends, but, their parents are some my best friends, my dd1 is friends with their older kids, we've known the families for 3 years.

If my dds were invited over for a play date with a family I did not know well, I would absolutely stay, my kids are 6 and 4, and I think I'd continue until they were 8?

3 for both my kids with close family friends. DS was 4.5 when he first had a play date with a friend from kinder where I didn't know the parents really well.

DS is 7. Just! I have no problems with him going to 2 of his friends without me as we are family friends and I know them well. Not that he has, but I'd let him. But we have been invited to a play date with a new friend he's made. I've met the Mum once for under 5 minutes, and it wasn't a great first impression, and am just not comfortable with leaving him with people I don't know at all! They are probably nice, but .........

Just not sure what to do as she is obviously fine with her kid coming here (as said he can come next time) so how do I stay without making a big deal of it? They live a few minutes up the road, so not like I have the excuse of a long way home or anything!
