    Default IVF in Perth

    Hi
I'm new here and hoping to connect and share my experience with other ladies in Perth starting their IVF journey.
DH and I have been TTC since 2012 we have had a few set backs over the years but finally we are about to start IVF.
I am 37, have Stage IV Endometriosis, PCOS and a BMI over 35...all things that are working against us.
DH is 36, has perfect swimmers and a normal BMI...
We have picked up all our kit from Concept Fertility and we are just waiting on AF.
Fingers crossed for a nice Christmas present this year

    Default She's here! She's here!

    AF arrived yesterday!
This was the first time I can remember ever being happy to see her!
I called to tell the nurse and she advised me they would like me to come in for a baseline scan due to my history of cysts...
So this morning I went in to have a scan and they found a cyst
I was told to get a blood test done so they can see if any progesterone or estrogen is coming from the cyst...which could interfere with this cycle.
I just received a call from the nurse and we are all systems go!
I can start my Gonal F injection tonight (150) and then from tomorrow do it in the morning. They will monitor my cyst which is 4cm x 4.5cm. I had surgery to remove my last cyst in July...it was over 15cm!!! Fingers crossed this one stays small
My next scan and bt is on Saturday.

    Super excited to get started

I had my Day 6 Scan and Bloods.
The lady doing my scan was so lovely...she gave hubby a "guided tour" around my insides as this was going to be the only time he was going to be able to come with me.
All eggs were 8 - 12mm and she said everything seems to be going nicely.
The cysts was still there but she didn't seem to think anything was out of the ordinary. I had my blood test and left.
That afternoon I received a phone call I did not expect...the clinic had to cancel the cycle as it seems the cyst was interfering with my cycle. I had to stop all injections and wait for Aunt Flow which should arrive in "a week or 2" and then come in for a scan to see if the cyst was still there or not. If the cyst had gone I could start the cycle again and if it had not gone it would need to be aspirated They also said they will need to up the Gonal F to 300 next time.
4 weeks later Aunt Flow turned up and I went in for my scan...it was still there and now it was 4.5cm x 6.9cm and there was another one 2.5cm x 4cm!!!
I left there feeling absolutely devastated!
The nurse called to "schedule" (tell me when they had booked) my cyst aspiration for...Monday 16th January...

Default Cyst Aspiration - That doesn't sound fun!

    Monday 16th January
I go in for day surgery feeling both nervous and excited as once this is done we can start again finally!
I awake in recovery feeling talkative and happy knowing that the next step is closer.
My FS pops in to let me know how the procedure went....
"Not good. We will have to do a 'more formal procedure' as the cysts could not be aspirated but don't worry about that for now. I will see you back in my rooms in a couple of weeks to discuss where we go from here..."
I was stunned and gutted. I went from feeling on top of the world to bursting in to tears the minute he left. The nurses were lovely wheeling me away to a more private location so I could have a good cry.
I think I was so upset because I knew this would be a lengthy delay to the process...this will be my 3rd cyst removal surgery and the recovery is slow.
Both of my cyst removals have been complex and I had to stay in hospital for 2 nights each time and have a week off work and no exercise or lifting for at least 6 weeks!
Following surgery I called to see if my FS was referring me or doing the surgery himself and I was told he does this type of thing all the time so don't stress. He was on holidays but I could get in to see him on the 14th February!!! I thought to myself that is ages away but there wasn't much I could do so I took the appointment and figured I would just have to wait.
A couple of days later I received a call to say my FS would not be doing the surgery and he will be referring me back to my Oncologist/Gynecologist so I pushed to get the referral before I see my FS so I can get the ball rolling which they did. So today I have an appointment to see the surgeon regarding removing my latest cysts...hopefully he can get me in soon...

Default Cost of a Cancelled Cycle - Money for Nothing!

So I thought I would also add that I received a bill in the mail for having a cancelled cycle!

As if I wasn't already upset enough about not being able to go ahead with the cycle I have to pay over $600 for it!!!

Some of that I will get back but it was a kick in the guts that I was not expecting. I will need to ask someone to explain what the charge is for because its not like I was booked in for a procedure and then had to cancel or anything I literally did a day 1 scan and bt then injected (on my own) for 6 days and did a day 6 scan and bt...

Anyway, I just thought I would mention it.

    Off to my appointment now....

I met with the specialist yesterday and he wants to remove all cysts, endometriosis, both tubes and do a d+c on Tuesday!!!
And I need to do an ivf cycle straight away.
I am concerned about him taking my tubes but I can't fall pregnant naturally anyway so I guess it doesn't matter.
It wasn't exactly the outcome I thought it would be but fingers crossed 🤞 that this will improve our chances of a bfp!

    Default Surgery...

My surgery went well...my surgeon managed to save one of my tubes.

As expected I had to spend 2 nights in hospital and I had a week off work to recover.

I had a follow up with my FS post aspiration and he had the notes from my surgeon so he could see it had gone well. He noticed I have a rather large blood clot on my stomach but the body should absorb that with time. He said he is happy for me to start on my next cycle or wait a month if I need a bit more time to recover...

DH and I discussed it and we feel that due to my persistent cysts we should start straight away. So we just need Aunt Flow to turn up...

    Default Will this be it?

Tuesday 21st February Aunt Flow graced us with her presence...exactly 2 weeks post op and 27 days since my last! What a nice surprise!!! She hasn't been on time let alone early in years!!!

I call Concept and they advise me to come for a blood test the following morning to make sure...the amount of pain I am in I already know the answer but they want to make sure so I go in anyway...

That afternoon the nurse calls to tell me to start my Gonal F (300) that afternoon and from then on to do it at the same time every morning. My next appointment at the clinic is Saturday for a blood test and ultrasound.

On Saturday DH and I go in to the clinic around 9am (I was told I should have been there between 7.30 and 8 which I wasn't aware of). Anyway, they still did my tests and I received a call with my results that afternoon to say my largest follicles are 12mm and my oestrogen has risen to 1032. I needed to start my other injection Orgalutran the following morning so I don't ovulate and continue with the Gonal F (300 dose). My next appointment will be Monday for a blood test and ultrasound...

    So far, so good

Default Jab Jab Blood Scan Jab Jan Blood Jab Jab Blood Scan Jab Jab Blood!

Sunday I start my Orgalutran...and can i just say OUCH! The Gonal F doesn't give me any trouble but this needed a lot more pressure to go through the skin and it was like I could feel it going in and my tummy was sensitive for many hours after. I'm definitely not a fan! It also feels like I'm running out of spots to jab since I can only inject on one side of my tummy because of the blood clot and bruising from my surgery.

So Monday I arrive nice and early for my Scan and Blood Test. This time my mum drove me in because DH had to work and I still can't drive because of my recent surgery. It was also good that she could come and see what happens...one less person asking me questions afterwards too! The sonographer said my lining was at 7.1 and I had quite a few 14mm and everything seems to be looking good
That afternoon I get the call from the nurse...my oestrogen is rising nicely @ 2700 and they would like me to do a blood test tomorrow...and keep doing the Gonal F and Orgalutran

Tuesday blood results...oestrogen has risen to 3500 come in for a blood test and scan tomorrow...keep doing the Gonal F and Orgalutran

Wednesday the sonographer told me my lining is at 9.5 and I have some 18mm and a heap ranging in size from 10-16mm. That afternoon they called to say my oestrogen was now 5500 and I need to do a blood test in the morning...

Thursday morning I do the bloods and get a call in the afternoon to say I can do the Trigger tonight!!!

So I need to have my 2 x Antibiotic tablets with my dinner and do my Trigger injection Ovidrel (250) @ 10.10pm in readiness for collection on Saturday morning.

I no longer need to do any of my other injections

So Saturday is the egg collection day and I think everything is looking good so fingers crossed that this is it!

This morning I went in for the egg collection procedure.

They got 4...I was a little disappointed tbh because it seemed like I had a lot more...it's so confusing! My doctor was away (probably taking advantage of the long weekend!) so we had another dr from the clinic who had drawn the short straw. He was lovely in person. He came and sat with us and had a chat while we were waiting which was nice. He did not come see me after the procedure which was disappointing as I saw him pop out and see other ladies in recovery. Anyway, it's done now so fingers crossed they all make it through the night.

The embryologist did come and see us before we left the clinic and she answered our questions as best she could. Hopefully when we call tomorrow afternoon they all made it through the night and have all fertilised 🤞🏼

    Ready for the next step
