This is what I did with DD. Saw the ENT in his offices and paid the full fee. Then he put me onto his wait list at the public hospital. It was about a 7-8m wait and only about 1 week's notice of when surgery would be. However it meant we got the specialist a friend had recommended and the only out of pocket was his initial consult.

DD didn't need grommets and was booked for ad+tonsils, however once in there he said ads were small so just took out the tonsils. Her recovery was good, back at kindy 1 week later and it was the best thing we could have done for her health. It's been almost 5 years and she's needed antibiotics maybe 2-3 times since the op.
He does but 4-6mth wait which we can't do. DS starts school next year and has a hearing loss now. Already has a severe speech disorder so it really can't wait.

I noticed your in newy. I have a friend who raves about a Dr Jefferson at Ear nose throat Newcastle in Jesmond. It was less than 6 wks from consult to surgery through the public system with him even though other surgeons had a 4-6mth wait. Might be worth getting a second opinion....

Due to DD3 age (she was 12months when she had hers done), our private ENT couldn't do her in the private hospital so popped her into the public system. It only took 4 weeks from appointment to surgery so you may be surprised if you take the public hospital option with your ENT.

Yes I know but I can't take the risk. It has to be done by the middle of January at the latest so he can be fully recovered to start school.

I've had 3 of my 4 daughters done! I do believe the money would be worth it to have it done quickly, especially if he is having so many issues. Hope it doesn't turn out too costly for you though.

Yes I think I'll just have to bite the bullet. Because he is a foster child I have asked FaCS to pay it but I doubt they will. Plus they take ages to approve things anyway. Going to call today to book him in.

Is it crazy that Day stay is only $70 cheaper than overnight? Day stay $2480 overnight $2550

Sorry to drag up an old post. Just wondering which Gold Coast ENT you guys used and whether you would recommend them. I'm looking at private options for my son at present.

    TIA

    Bumping

Does anyone know the cost for just grommets for a 1 year old. I have to book ds2 into an ent on tues as he can't shake an ear infection in his right ear. We'll pay for them out of pocket rather then wait forever for the public health system. Thanks
