Default Oligospermia - male infertility - HELP!

So I feel like we have been kicked in the gut once again, only about a month ago we were told that we need IVF due to my tubes being blocked. Now yesterday we got told that my husband has Severely Abnormal sperm, really putting focus on the ‘sever’ part. It’s called oligospermia.

My tubes I was prepared for to a certain degree, but this I have no idea how to deal with and how to be there for my husband. I feel its always been such a male ego thing and that ‘their boys’ are strong. I will be telling my husband tonight over video call, as he is away at the moment. I can only give him the facts, but what I am concerned about it how to help me get through it.

Any advice on your experience with this? Just basically anything you know, success rate? How your husband coped? Thanks in advance ladies xx

Hi OP sorry to hear your news.
My DH has severe ogliospermia too and we needed ICSI to conceive our babies.
At first it's a kick in the guts to hear about it and I'm sure your DH will feel very guilty and upset at first. But to be honest for us it didn't turn out to be such an ordeal in creating embryos.
Since you already need IVF for your blocked tubes this new issue will easily be resolved by using ICSi instead of IVF. Male infertility is much easier to overcome in a sense as icsi can be very effective for fertilising eggs.
I do recommend that your hubby do the SCSA test which tests the DNA fragmentation of the sperm. If very high fragmentation then there may be reduced fertilisation.
There is a few things men can do to prepare themselves for your IVF treatment - ejaculating often, zinc, vitamin E and c, loose undies.
    Good luck

    Hi @monkey88

I don't have any advice for you, I just want to say I'm sorry to hear this.
I was actually just wondering how your TTC journey was going as I hadn't seen your name pop up in a while and then I saw this.

How did DH take the news?

    Big hugs xx

Hi @NelopeJ88 thanks I don't think he believes me 100% like he is in denial. He said that it's probably not true cos he knows it wasn't a very good sample cos he was nervous. I told him I don't think it works like that, and he just said 'it is what it is'. So I don't know. He went for his bloods today which was good ... so at least he is still moving forward it's the process.

    How are you going?

Sorry to hear that! Just know that lots of people go onto have healthy babies with the same diagnosis. My sisters husband was the same, and they found enough good swimmers to fertilize several eggs during ivf. It's all still positive so try not to worry!

The main thing is that he is still doing everything he has to do you guys can move forward.
When will you be starting IVF?

We are still just plotting along, actively trying. I hope this is our month. It's getting a bit disheartening each month when AF shows up. I wish the witch would just stay away and that it would be our turn already for a little bundle of joy! Maybe December will be our month :-)

Thanks @ana14 it's comforting to know other people have had success, gives me hope!

The aim is to start trying in 2 cycles - so I am due in a week-ish, that is the cycle I missed out on, so my period is due approx 24th of dec, so if everything goes ok until then that's when we will start. But it depends on DH tests results & my day 21 scan ... so hopefully 24th dec .... but it's a 'maybe' and I got to remember that.
@NelopeJ88 how long have you been trying now? Fingers crossed for this month!

@monkey88 Fingers crossed everything goes to plan!

I came off the pill in May and we've been trying since then but I spent a fair chunk of time from May to September away with work. I tried to make it so I was home around O each month but I guess we just keep missing the egg.
