Default WWYD? Finding large cash amount in op shop jacket

I heard on the radio this morning that a man browsing in an op shop discovered a leather jacket in the store had two envelopes in the pockets full of hundred dollar bills - $6,000 to be precise.

The man alerts the op shop staff straight away and the op shop report it to the police. After 3 months, no one from the public claims the money, so the cash is given back to the op shop.

Apparently if the man bought the jacket, then reported the money to the police, he would have been entitled to the cash.

Link to the story below if anyone wants to read it:

Anyway, the question is - what would you do if you were that man?

    a) do exactly what he did
    b) buy the jacket and keep the money
    c) buy the jacket, but then report the money to police in the hope it would be returned to you if no one claimed it
    d) try to take the money from the jacket and discretely leave the shop
    c) other?

probably C , if I thought about it for a few minutes. but my first response would be to give the envelopes to the shop staff. If the money ended up with a charity, like salvos, I would be happy for them to have the money. marie.

Probably A. Otherwise C but would do "something good" with it as I'd feel wrong to keep it

yeah I would do A. you wouldnt know really if the money belonged to the op shop etc ....

such a large amount, its the right thing to do. I am a firm believer in "what goes around, comes around" and doing the right thing will come back to you later.

I would do A. Mostly because I honestly think someone else would need the money more than me - even a charity. If I was actually going to buy the jacket I would maybe do C. But give most/all the money to charity.

    C) I'd then donate a portion to my charity beyond blue and put the rest towards my kids education

Prior to reading this, I would have done A without a doubt.

However, now I know the loophole about being able to keep the money if I bought the jacket first, I would be very tempted to choose option C.

ETA upon reflection I don't think I could do anything other than A. The guilt would eat me up.
