My job brings me into contact with purchasing essential items for homeless people. Common purchases besides food are:
    - Top ups for mobile phones
    - Top ups for public transport cards (eg Go Card)

Being able to keep in touch with family and/or services is a huge benefit to mental health as is being able to get around.

What we hear about most of all are tampons/pads, toothbrushes and toothpaste, wet wipes, deodorant. Any of these things help restore dignity in an undignified, unfair situation.
Have you heard of the period project? They have some good ideas too.
Socks and underwear are also good if you can afford them or can find them cheap. @Busy-Bee also offered helpful advice with top ups for mobile phones or public transport

    Lovely idea @Louise41
Big w do 5 pack of socks for $5 and 10 pack of knickers for $10.
Agree with other suggestions like a small flannel, toothbrush/toothpaste, soap, shampoo etc. and maybe a small luxury item too? Even if it's just a block of chocolate or something. Or pen and notebook.
